Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Zacapa 23 is a good rum and easy to find but compared to Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, it is no contest for the price. Zacapa 23 is overly sweet in an added sugar taste way but is smooth and easy to drink. A good choice but there are plenty of other less expensive and better options available.

I liked this rum, and thought it was smooth-drinking. I’m not much for “descriptions”, but I know what I think tastes good. Good price point and very enjoyable

Aroma is quite nice. New to this, but I smell tobacco, caramel, perhaps butterscotch or caramel with molasses. It's rather nice. Taste is good as well but finishes off with an unpleasant bourbon(?) bite.

Beautiful taste and very smooth but artificially sweetened. Tastes very nice but would probably not get it again.

Initial caramel smells and tobacco on the pallet which goes into caramel and vanilla.

I don't mind if distillers add a small dosage to their rums (within reason). The deceptive part to me is calling this Ron Zacapa 23, which makes it look like a 23 year old bottle of rum and excuses the higher price tag. Having said that, for me this is superior to the XO. If you like drier rums, you'll definitely prefer the XO, but I don't mind a hint of sweetness, and having tasted these side by side, not only would I rather drink this, it's also more complex. While the XO is one note with the hint of cognac, this one has different notes from the different casks. If the XO is a 7, then this is definitely a 7.5. It's not quite an 8, so I'll stick to rating this the same as its older brother. Also, at the price of... HOLY CRAP, less than half the price of the XO?? My god the XO is overpriced!

Nevidím dôvod na takú vysokú cenovku za tento rum. Ale je pravda, že sa pije celkom s ľahkosťou.

This is a good rum. However, it seems like it has additives that detract from the overall taste.

For me, Zacapa 23 is a benchmark rum. Maybe the price tag is a bit high, and there are some cheaper and better rums. However, not accounting for the price it is a good rum. A bit on the sweet side, so it's a very good beginner rum. Has some clear notes and is a classic representative of spanish style rums. Another thing to point out is that Zacapa doesn't reveal the dosage (relatively high) and displays the number 23 as if it's 23 years old, while there is only a very small percentage of 23 yo rum inside (mostly 6yo).

I like a sweet rum so I enjoy Zacapa. I actually prefer the Zacapa 23 over the XO. I find it to be a bit pricey compared to other similar flavored rums.

It's ok, but I'm not overly impressed. I heard so much about this rum, and thought it would be better.
