Plantation 2004 St. Lucia rum

Plantation 2004 St. Lucia review posted over 3 years ago by HunterRomario 🇨🇿 | 380 ratings

Alkohol: 43 %
Původ: Svatá Lucie
Aroma: Exotická dřevitost ruku v ruce se sladce ředidlovou vůní, k tomu se přidává míza, tresť z rumových pralinek z dob ČSSR. Skořice, smažený banán, lak, leštěnka, karamel, červené pomeranče. (89 b)
Chuť: Nasládlá, mízová, s připálenou ovocností, trochu medicínská ve stylu Angostury, připálené rozinky z vánočky, pomerančové želé. (91 b)
Body: 90/100
Shrnutí: Kupoval jsem po úspěchu lahve z roku 2003. Dělaly se ve starém i v novém designu etiket, mám ještě tu starší verzi. Rozdíly mezi ročníky mi přijdou v tomto případě minimální. Opět velmi dobrý a svérázný rum.

Bacardi Black rum

Bacardi Black review posted over 3 years ago by Mainah93 🇺🇸 | 1 rating

At first this rum seems to have a bit of a bad rep, but I must say it's much better over runs such as malibu black. This rum has a tad lighter color than some traditional rums I have seen, suck as Kraken, although I suspect it is darkened by a bit of caramel.

Chilled, this rum seems easy to drink straight for me, the aftertaste is a bit of a sweet cane and slight bitterness. The burn while drinking this rum is actually not that bad at all.

Overall, this rum may seem bad at first, but I think this can be a decent rum for a backyard party or a decent mixing rum for a cheap but doable drinking party.

I was pleasantly surprised by this rum. It has a little bit of the Jamaican funk, slight sweetness and oak. Not much burn for a rum that doesn't appear to be aged for too long, and very easy sipper. Not overly complex but the finish has a decent length, and the flavor is really nice.
Light in color but decent amount body. In my opinion this is better (and cheaper) than Appleton Signature blend.

Kirk and Sweeney 12-Year rum

Kirk and Sweeney 12-Year review posted over 3 years ago by iedalgic 🇺🇸 | 2 ratings

Huge disappointment, and better choices out there for the price. Very strong taste and smell of vanilla, so much so that I wonder if this is artificially flavored - like dumping a small bottle of vanilla essence into a bland rum. I can't believe that much vanilla can develop naturally from aging in a barrel, with pretty much no other flavors developing at the same time.
Not much else apart from the vanilla taste and smell. The only positive is that it doesn't have too much burn. Useless as a mixer too, because the smell of vanilla is overpowering.

Flor de Caña 12-Year review posted over 3 years ago by Florin 🇷🇴 | 78 ratings

Gosling's Family Reserve Old review posted over 3 years ago by Anthony C 🇺🇸 | 236 ratings

I did not expect such a great rum from this brand. Truly remarkable. Dark, smooth, and sweet. Still light, not thick or syrupy. Easy sipping rum for a newer rum fan to break into straight up. Very cool bottle with wax over a cork. Smells like cherry coke, bourbon
and oak. Tastes fruity and light with a light bite or spice on the end. Again, this caught me by surprise. Found it for $63 total wines.

Chairman’s Reserve 2011 Master's Selection Evanius Harris 9-Year rum

Saint Lucian native, Evanius Harris is the Master Blender at St. Lucia Distillers and creator of 1931, has been crafting blends for over thirty years. And here we have his masterpiece from the Vendome pot still. I have hight expectations after the 13th master select.

The nose starts not very intensive, I expected the scent to be a lot dirtier. I have the impression of Fiji rum first, with pickled vegetables. But after 15min the nose became dirtier with leather, gum, grains, dry fruits and some burned sugar. Quite tasty but not as intensive as the 13y old. In the background I get some hints of vanilla and wood.

The taste starts spicy with dry fruits, grains, leather, gum, caramel and a medical note. A combination of light sweetness and dirty notes, like in a Caroni. That's already very tasty and I'm very satisfied. There is also a light Fiji note, the pickled vegatables. The alcohol is tingeling on my palet, I get also wood with tannins at the end of initial taste. This is already a very good start.
The middle taste is also spicy, with leather, burned sugar, wood and tannins.
Then there are some grasy notes with wood. The taste turns salty. At the end wet barrel and earth are rising on my palet. That's a nice development.
After that the finish starts with spice, again leather and a salty taste with tannins. The taste turn again a little bit sweeter with burned sugar and wood. In the aftertaste I get leather, slightly caramel, mint, black currant and after some minutes some bacon. This is a nice Caroni aftertaste.

This rum is like a mix of TDL (Trinidad) and Caroni with a hint of Fiji rum.
Very tasty, spicy and strong rum. Because of the weak nose I must rate this one with 87 points.

Nose: salty and pickled vegetables*, some grains*, wild leather**, gum*, dry fruits*, caramel*, vanilla and oak*, medical note*.
Taste: dry fruits*, leather**, grains**, gum*, caramel*, pickled vegetables with sour note, medical note, spice, wood, tannins**, grains
Middle: leather**, spice, burned sugar, medical note*, wood**, tannins** with vanilla*, barrel and earth**

As for taste, she be not as sweet as she smells. There be a taste that reminds me more of cheap flowery perfume than watermelon. An' before you can figure out what that might be, the taste goes sour. Havana Club 7-Year rum

Havana Club 7-Year review posted over 3 years ago by Carbon 🇩🇰 | 27 ratings

An important preface is that this rum is available in Denmarkf for 22€ regularly - that's 26 $, so I'm not judging it from the rarity of the American market, in which case I'd probably rate it 5 ot 6. It's pretty good for a Cuba libre, maybe even Dark & Stormy or other drinks of low ABV. For a Cuba Libre, it is however EXCELLENT - the best I've had yet. I wouldn't use it for tiki or other other rum forwards drinks, but for a "base", it's very good for the money.

EDIT: Actually, after tasting it neat a few times, I've upped my score to an 8. My current opinion is that in Denmark, you DO NOT get a better rum for 170 dkk/22 euros. It's as good as a millonario on the rocks, and at little more than half the price. The only downside is if you're expecting a classic cuban room with heavy wood, leather and tobacco, this one is more in line with the sweeter Dominican Republic rums (though not quite as sweet).

Millonario XO review posted over 3 years ago by Simson 🇨🇿 | 133 ratings

It is a mixture of rums up to 20 years old, aged with a solera system in bourbon barrels and then after sherry Pedro Ximenez. Only 6,000 bottles are produced per year.
The bottle looks luxurious. It is square with a large gold-plated cap and a right cork. I really like that. It looks similar to a luxury perfume.

The color is dark gold to amber. Looks like the rum wasn't coloured.
The aroma is delicate and sweet. In the nose you can recognize vanilla, cinnamon, candied tropical fruit (mango) and subtle tones of coffee. I did not feel any unpleasant alcohol smell.

The taste is again vanilla, caramel and cocoa. Furthermore, candied fruits (mango, figs), cinnamon, coffee and spices (cinnamon). The taste is also pleasantly sweet and creamy without the influence of sharp alcohol. The tones of the wood are only marginal. The aftertaste is medium-term, but pleasant. Really nice rum!

Overall rating: 9,5 out of 10

The taste is also pleasantly sweet and creamy without the influence of sharp alcohol. The tones of the wood are only marginal. The aftertaste is medium-term, but pleasant. Really nice rum!
