Rum Artesanal 2001 Trinidad Tdl 19-Year rum

Rum Artesanal 2001 Trinidad Tdl 19-Year review posted over 2 years ago by Mr. Rumantic 🇩🇪 | 296 ratings

The Rum Artesanal Trinidad 2001 is a 19 years matured rum of the TDL (Trinidad Distillery Limited) Distillery. The rum was bottled in 2020 with 56.5% cask strength by the German bottler RA. All this, of course, without dyes, sugar or filtration. It is a very limited bottling and as all very good RAs hard to get.

The rum is typical Trinidad in the nose. Heavy aromas of baked tropical fruit with a medicinal note. But also wood and caramel. There are those dirty notes. They are so addictive. I love Trinidad Rums.

On the palate, the TDL signature is confirmed. Menthol, medicine and a deep dark sweetness. Wood notes and light bitter substances come along. Leather is recognizable. The rum becomes spicier. Also, the dirty note is there again. The finish is woody with the light but pleasant bitter substances. Here everything gathers again. The reverberation is not intrusive but the rum stays long.

A great rum and a great TDL. Less fruity but dirty and spicy. It brings everything and is a fantastic bottling. If you like Trinidad, you must have tried this TDL. It is a little similar to Caroni. Which certainly does not harm the rum.

I love Trinidad Rums.

Crystal clear in the glass.
In the nose ugly and pungent. Rotten fruit soaked in paint stripper is the first impression. Wait - wait - wait - and everything changes. You dive in and under the surface opens a paradise of scents. Grassy and floral scents mingle with all sorts of tropical fruits, pineapple, banana, papaya, vanilla and more tart directions like tobacco, leather and a drop of olive oil.
On the palate, not expectedly fruity and soft. There lives up a clear lovely line, fruit and more fruit, interspersed with grasses, sugar cane and yellow blooming flowers. These lead to the base of something bigger that wants to be discovered.
On the finish, the fruit lingers on the tongue for a long time, the sugar cane lingers on it a bit longer.
An absolutely great mix rum in any case for fruit punch with punch. For mixers, explorers, brave, ester bombs lovers and all others of course. -8

Damoiseau 1980 Full Proof Velier 22-Year review posted over 2 years ago by Mr. Rumantic 🇩🇪 | 296 ratings

The Habitation Velier Damoiseau 1980 is one of Velier's first full proof releases in 2002. The rhum, which consists of sugar cane and some molasses, was made in 1980 by Damoiseau (Bellevue). The purchased barrels were allowed to be stored until 1998. Until 2002, the rhum was allowed to rest in the bottle again. Therefore, one can argue whether he is 18 or 22 years old. The rhum was then bottled with 60.3% cask strength. The Label is mice but not a typical Velier.

You can tell that this rhum is not a classic Agricole Rhum. I let the rhum breathe for 60min out of respect. Then he seemed to open up completely. What comes next is impressive. Vanilla, caramel, fruity notes with honey and oak barrels. Heavy and dark. But also light with grassy aromas. Wow. That's impressive.

On the palate, the rhum is very mild for 60.3% and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. Again, the rhum is full-bodied and comes with vanilla, peach and other fruity flavors. But also oak and honey. and some nice Agricole notes. But not much. There are also heavy elements. There is a lot to discover and 2cl is sadly not enough for that Mission. The finish is intense and long. The rhum is dry but never bitter.

An amazingly good rhum. I am grateful that i had the chance to try this masterpiece. That little sip of Rhum history. Not a typical Agricole. But it doesn't matter here. Just awesome. Unfortunately priceless.

Aber auch Eiche und Honig. Aber such grassige Agricole Noten. Habitation Velier 2017 Forsyths White WPE (bottled) rum

Habitation Velier 2017 Forsyths White WPE (bottled) review posted over 2 years ago by Mr. Rumantic 🇩🇪 | 296 ratings

The Habitation Velier 2017 Forsyths WPE is a molasses rum from Jamaica, which was produced by Worthy Park in the pot style process. Previously, the molasses was allowed to ferment for 3 months. The rum is bottled without storage in cask strength with 57% alcohol. The ester content is pleasantly high at 597gr/hlpa. The rum is naturally without sugar, filtration or dyes.

The WP is very powerful in the nose and the ester shows directly what it can do. Distinct solvents and many fruity notes such as orange and other citrus fruits are perceptible. The rum should have at least 30min to breathe so that the sharpness does not disturb the nosing. Here you can learn a lot about esters. On the palate, the rum has an amazingly pleasant sweetness that meets fruity aromas. The 57% are not aggressive and the finish is characterized by ester notes which stay very long in the mouth.

The WPE is a fantastic rum which can be drunk pure without any problems. I like it a lot. Also very suitable for blending. A great complex rum, even if I miss the barrel notes and it is therefore for me to learn, blending and as a drink in between.

Clement VSOP 4-Year rum

My 2nd Rhum Agricole after J.M. Blanc. I was expecting a lot more funky, grassy freshness but that time in a barrel really mellow this rhum out. I enjoy sipping this neat or in a Ti Punch Vieux. Complex but approachable.

Edit: Lowered from 8 to 7 after more experience with Martinique Rhums
