Millonario Reserva Especial 15 rum

Millonario Reserva Especial 15 review posted over 2 years ago by Polou 🇫🇷 | 63 ratings

It is an old rum, made from molasses, made using the Soléra method and with additional sugar.
On the nose we immediately smell the vanilla and the butterscotch.
In mouth it's the same thing, we taste vanilla and caramel with a touch of cocoa. The finish is smooth and quite short.

This Ron is still pleasant to drink, it’s very sweet. however all of these flavours seems to be a little artificial and I think they are. the woody taste is totally absent which I find very strange for a 15 year old Ron. I find it too sweet and sugared, without real complexity.
This ron is overpriced and overrated. he is for me similar to a 23 year old Zacapa and all those "Premium" rums which are often expensive rums with a lot of additives and artificial flavors. we must not forget that they are still pleasant to drink despite everything.
Sorry for bad English.

I bought this rum having read a solid review in Forbes magazine - Sadly this rum (?) is just so disappointing. I seriously don’t know if the smell or the taste is worse ? It is like a mixture of cough syrup and cheap soda infused with imitation vanilla essence. The only way I will get rid of this is to use as part of blind rum tastings !

Millonario 10 Aniversario Reserva is a blend made up of 2/3 rums aged in white oak barrels that have contained bourbon and 1/3 rums aged for 10 years in barrels that have housed Jerez.
On the nose we immediately smell vanilla and caramel. The smell is very pleasant.

In mouth we immediately smell vanilla and caramel.
The finish is on butterscotch.

It is a good ron from Spanish tradition. it’s quite light. I find it a bit expensive like the 15 year old Millionario.

Kraken Black Spiced review posted over 2 years ago by Polou 🇫🇷 | 63 ratings

Kraken is a traditional rum distilled in Trinidad and Tobago. After spending 24 months in oak barrels, the rum is embellished with a mixture of more than ten spices which macerate before packaging.
On the nose, it is a real spiced Dark Rum. You can smell caramel, cloves and vanilla.

In the mouth it is quite smooth and sugary with a lot of spices. Caramel, cloves, vanilla and more.
The finish is long on spices and vanilla.

Not too bad for a sipping rum, on the other hand it is an excellent rum for cocktails. I take it regularly for parties.

Denizen Merchants Reserve 8-Year review posted over 2 years ago by MaxMunafo 🇺🇸 | 67 ratings

I recently learned that this rum was produced in collaboration with Martin Cate and is the house Mai Tai rum at Smugglers Cove. Being a total fanboy, I drove over an hour to the closest store that had some and bought three bottles.
Happy to say it lives up to the hype. I’m very satisfied with how it works in a Mai Tai, and I will be testing it in other recipes that call for an aged Jamaican rum. Yes, I know it’s not entirely Jamaican, but the Martinique Rhum Traditionnel (molasses based, med-high ester) portion of the blend is similar to Jamaican rum from what I’ve read.

Naga Cask Aged rum

Naga Cask Aged review posted over 2 years ago by Polou 🇫🇷 | 63 ratings

The sugar cane come from Java, Naga is an old rum resulting from a fermentation made from Javanese malted red rice yeast.
The aging is done in Jati barrels and then in Bourbon barrels.
The nose is marked by notes of caramel and very black molasses and a touch of vanilla.
The palate is smooth, sweet and thick, with still simple flavors of caramel and vanilla. We can feel the woody side, with an almost humid and tropical wood. The finish is very discreet and a little too light in my opinion.
I bought this rum which I found curious but I will not do it again. Not my taste.
Try it and make your own opinion.

The nose is complex and versatile. It’s reminds me of spices and leather. You can smell artichoke and iodine is very present. There’s fruity notes in the background.

In the mouth we can smell spices, leather, iodine, burnt notes, very ripe exotic fruits and mango. In the end it becomes more medicinal with cloves. This is a very surprising rum.

I find this agricol white rum really incredible.
The nose may seem a little harsh and dry, but it should be allowed to breathe a little. Then the smell of cane and pure cane juice is amazing.
For the palate despite it being 59 degrees, I find it very easy to drink neat.
We also find the taste and freshness of slightly peppery sugar cane. I find it to be an excellent Agricol white rum. it is uncompromising and a little tough, but it is one of my favorite rums. the taste of fresh ducat cane is amazing. I prefer it to the Neisson 50/52 and 55.

The nose of this rum, very intense, is marked by floral notes - cane sugar, vesou - which is pleasantly complemented by a slight hint of citrus.

On the palate, the attack of this rum is marked by great sweetness. Full and supple body with sweet notes of cane, honey and coconut.
The finish is smooth and rich in flavor. An excellent agricol rum from Martinique.

Havana Club Pacto Navio rum

Havana Club Pacto Navio review posted over 2 years ago by Polou 🇫🇷 | 63 ratings

It’s a Cuban rum produced by Havana Club. It results from a blend of ten old rums and a partial finish in Sauternes casks at the Cuban distillery of San José.

On the nose it is pleasant, the smell is interesting and sweet. We smell vanilla and ripe fruit.
On the palate the attack is very smooth and even silky. The intensity of the alcohol that had been perceived has completely evaporated. The rum tastes like caramel syrup and coffee, with lightly roasted nuts.

The finish is also very smooth, with caramel and vanilla.

This rum is faithful to the tradition of lightness of Cuba, the vinous notes however bring a fruity which gives it a certain originality.

Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year rum

Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year review posted over 2 years ago by Polou 🇫🇷 | 63 ratings

Pusser’s Blue Label is a faithful reproduction of British Royal Navy Admiralty rum, originally produced between 1655 and 1970.
It is made from the blend of rums from former English possessions.
As the brand's other rums, no additives or colorings have been added before packaging.

On the nose, here is a rum typical of the English tradition. At the same time spicy, full-bodied, fruity. On the palate, the rum is balanced and complex. it offers a very particular profile, faithful to Navy rums. The spirit of the English style is well represented there: a full-bodied rum, not necessarily refined but tasty and lively. We can smell very ripe exotic fruits

The finish is both mineral and coppery, then on lightly roasted nuts. For me this is a great rum, full of flavor and full bodied for a reasonable price. I can't wait to taste the 54% version.

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera rum

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera review posted over 2 years ago by Polou 🇫🇷 | 63 ratings

This Ron from Guatemala is extremely famous. Because it's soft, sweet and easily accessible (apart from the price). Which is a good thing. The taste is good and the smell is really pleasant. We can smell the vanilla and the wood. Then in the mouth the caramel and vanilla are very present before giving way to dry and ripe fruits.

But what bothers me is the price first, a ron far too expensive for what it is.
Then adding additives such as sugar or glycerin to give it the desired taste and texture.
I am also not a big fan of Systema Solera as it is always indicated the age of the oldest rum even if it is in tiny quantities. Unlike English rum where the youngest rum age appears.

To conclude: it is a pleasant ron to drink, the taste anis good and the smell as well. However, many things lead me to say that we are sold in mid-range flavored and sweet rum at the price of a Premium. For me it is in the same category as Don Papa, sweet flavored rums pleasant to drink but sold a little too expensive for what it is and without any real complexity.
