So it came as a gift, plus points - but despite being ok its fairly run of the mill. My rating may appear high after that but I still like it. (Not many I dont though) Not so easy to find and most responses Ive had are based on that scarcity. Its not kraken which I also like but after trying more and more Its meh! but likeable

I agree with Stefan. No wonder I can't find another bottle of Shibboleth at all. And if I found another bottle, the price would be sky high. This kind of crap has encouraged me to stop playing this dirty rotten game by competing with speculators just to get good tasting rum. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. Out of the six Foursquare ECS rums that I have tried, two got my rating as an 8,...

For me it has lots going for it but top of the list is taste!!! Im losing my sense of smell so cant comment. the fact that its a 12 yr old at a slightly lower price point is a bonus too but imho there are lots of artificially sweetened rums which don;t come close to this and it has none added! I like the sweet ones anyway but if the product is good enough to stand alone Like this one so be it. Yet to try other Flor de Cana offerings so will do in time.
Plantation Overproof O.F.T.D. review posted over 2 years ago by thebrowndram Philippines 🇵🇭 | 51 ratings
Nose: As expected, it comes in really hot. After giving it some time in the glass, more nuances are clearer: top notes of overripe saba bananas, banoffee pudding, and cherry stalks. Alongside more of the ethanol come hints of cacao nibs, dried plums, and burnt lemongrass. After bringing the ABV down to 50-55%, there's a steady yet rich parade of toffee, sesame oil, caramelized bananas, and cinnamon. There's also a refreshing sweetness coming in, alongside light-roast coffee, blueberry spread, and a kind of spice that I can't put my finger on - maybe turmeric?
Palate: Charred wood, light olive oil, and chocolate glaze edge out the muddle of flavors that follow due to the ethanol content. WIth water, the flavors are much more enjoyable. Blueberries, vanilla, still some bananas (grilled, this time), and a quiet hit of shaved coconut. The Jamaican funk is the most interesting part in its character.
Finish: Bitter oak and fades away quickly.

This post isn't primarily about price increases, we've just drifted in that direction because it's easy to get excited about it. I have written about my strategy in other threads and how I deal with price increases. What I see are rums that don't make sense to me. Especially too young or too old rums with weaknesses that the bottler tries to cover up by letting them mature in virgin oak for a lon...

I think it's quite simple, just don't buy overpriced limited releases from Mr. Gargano and other independent bottlers, who are the ones driving this development along with those who are speculating in my opinion. Let those who speculates in alcohol have their little fun for themselves. The fewer people who show interest in these bottlings, the smaller the price increase will be and thus the inter...

Lucky me lives near a major USA port city and we have yet to see these crazy price hikes on rum. However, the whisky collector market is totally nuts and driving up prices on all spirits. By the way, that bottle of Caroni 17 Year is not only still sitting behind that locked cabinet for more than a month, but the price w...

Centenario 30-Year review posted over 2 years ago by Dimitris Greece 🇬🇷 | 87 ratings
Centenario 30 is a bit different from 25 and 20, flavour goes to another direction... much less sweetness than other two which is ok, but it is a bit simple for this price. Smell reminds me Opthimus 21 & taste is closer to Unhiq XO which is cheaper but also bit expensive for 500 ml (if you think that Quorhum 30 from same company is older and much cheaper). Some days before I had taste again (as many times) Zacapa Roayal (which is also overpriced as all drinks over 200 euro) and that was richer-bolder-rounder & sweeter with many different types of aging (bourbon, cognac, wine, cherry, smoked & toasted oak....) and all them together produce great complexity, natural sweetness and make the blend more oily, interesting complexity and intense flavours!! Something which in Centenario 30 was missing for the price (as in Unhiq XO & Milonario XO). Flavour profile is medium sweet some light spices, vanilla, slightly velvet feeling and at the end some oak of whiskey-bourbon but soft. It is balance and nice dont get me wrong but not that unique, a touch more "special" than most rums with price around 40-70 euro. You can get at half price Quorhum 30 which is great expirience, more wooden toasted casck which I like, or El Dorado 21... I dont say they are much better, are about equal and they have their problems but at least with character & much cheaper!! And I can understud some people who says that love more 20 or 25 which got more flavours... For expirience drinkers value for money rums I would suggest are El Dorado 21, Ron Cubaney 30, Quorhum 30 and maybe Melteco Selection 1987 (bit pricey but nice experience). Further from that all Centenario 30 is a nice quality rum with delicate smoothness and enjoyable (but until there).
