I've seen these wine bags (sometimes called wine diapers) designed to be padded and leak-resistant in order to safely transport (up to) 750ml wine bottles aboard airlines. However there are ample rum bottles that are clearly not shaped like the typical 750ml wine bottle. Does anyone know of similar products designed for odd-shaped rum bottles. If not, what recommendations do you have to safely carry rum bottles within luggage? My wife and I plan on flying to the Bahamas in a couple of months and I want to bring back at least a couple of bottles of rum unavailable in the U.S. (especially where I live). Definitely want to bring back some Watlings. Also, while in Nassau (this will be the second trip within a year's time -- the first being the "cruise from hell" and I bought several bottles of rum...mostly Ricado and Ole Nassau...for friends and myself) I want to go to a diversely stocked liquor store and purchase hard-to-find rums. Any recommendations on where to go and what to look for. When I went the first time I was completely uneducated about rum but now, thanks to this website and others, I have a pretty good knowledge.

I always just wrap bottles in towels/shirts. None have broken yet. Last trip (California from London) I brought back 12 bottles of wine, two whiskies and a tequila all in my checked luggage.

That may be the way to go. Sadly it looks like I am going to have to delay the trip for a little over a year.

In my experience buying from Duty Free locations in Puerto Rico airport they always provide a padded bag. However when I find a good deal outside of the airport and need to put it in my suitcase, I'll wrap them in t-shirts, towels, or if they have a box put socks around it.
