I know that different Caribbean countries have different rules. I thought Barbados had a law about adding sugars to Rum? I they all seem to follow this except Plantation. Can anyone enlighten me as to the Rum laws.

Plantation rums can get away with adding sugar to Bajan rums because they are all finished in cognac casks in France. Another company claiming that their rums are from Barbados is called Cayman Reef. They use pure rum from that island and then ship it somewhere else to get the additives. I was not fooled. Other countries that do not allow added sugar are Jamaica and Nicaragua. However, the latest one from Plantation was distilled in Jamaica and then finished in cognac casks in France. Yet they specifically state on the bottle that it is called "Xaymaca Special Dry". Yes it is dry, but the cognac cask aging obliterates the Jamaican pot still flavors.

I almost forgot about flavored rums from Blue Chair Bay and Malibu, both originating in Barbados. Malibu rums are sugared in Canada before bottling. As for Blue Chair Bay, I have no idea how owner Kenny Chesney gets away with adding tons of sugar to his rums.

Yes, that’s right, it's not in generally the rum produced in Barbados, it's the rum who is bottled in Barbados which is not allowed to be sugared. Great stuff !
