Hello, I consider buying a bottle of Barcelo rum, but the ratings are quite random, more than others. I understand different people like different rums, but have you had any experience with their rums? Is it for me? I enjoy agricoles but wanted to try this, now I am tilted. From standard rums I like all the known ones such as Diplomatico R. E., Appletons, not so much Zacapa. Liked legendario 9.yo too...

Yes I just rated the Barcelo Imperial. I keep a bottle of Barcelo on my shelf always. It is worth a try. It is the one rum that turned me toward my now out of control rum collection. It is a Dominican run that I only tried in Punta Cana before it ever came up here. Let me know what you think. Give it a go.

Jep, Barcelo Imperial is not bad, also the Anejo is very pleasant. Not a heavy body, not very complex, but enjoyable. I think you like this style.

I just bought a bottle of Barcelo Imperial, given the price there is no reason not to give it a try.

I really like the Barcelo Anejo, very good price. I like it better than the Gran Anejo which costs more. It is almost as good as Brugal Extra Viejo.

Had a drink of this last night. Too light and very disappointing. Each to their own I guess

I received a bottle of Imperial recently, and I was not impressed by it at all. First of all, it was underproof - only 38 percent ABV, which always has strong effect on the intensity of the aroma and flavor. And indeed, the rum was rather inoffensive, sweetish affair with no notable character and short finish (probably column distillate "improved" with some sugar). It's not bad in any way, and you can pour it to visitors, but it's also not memorable in any way. If you can get good agricoles instead, I would go for the agricoles.

I had a small sample of Barcelo Imperial at a liquor store once but that's it. It was on the dry side with some sweetness and oak. I would say very little sugar added and good overal but short finish and nothing that really made it unique. When searching rum ratings consider that many reviewers appreciate sweet rum more than dry, the ratings will start to make more sense. Rums that I might call a sugary mess tend to have the highest ratings.
