I am not fan of rum made from juices. Typically those are not smooth side, earthy for my taste.
Tried this on Rum Festival in UK and this rum surprised me. It is smoother than typical juice rum, had a nice finish.
The screw cap was difficult to get off and in my case, after breaking the seal, the screw cap seems to be stripped, one can pull the screw cap straight off the bottle -
The rum is smooth, not much on the nose, it don't taste bad, but it don't taste great either. I can drink it, but this will be a "one of" for me. I really wanted it to taste so much better at 60 bucks a bottle! Yikes!
It was the end of the evening when I first sampled this Rum, so I tried again today, perhaps I am overly critical for a $60.00 bottle - but it is underwhelming, and I agree with another, there is a slight metallic after taste. Other then the metallic after taste, it should not offend anyone, but for me, there is not much to enjoy either. Perhaps I got a bad bottle. The paper box is very nice. I will leave it at a 5. Too bad, I always want to score higher then that for sure. I have a few more bottles in the cabinet I have not opened and after that I will do my exploring at tasting events I suppose.
I tried to like it, it's sippable, of course, but I could simply not connect to it.
I am not planning to buy another bottle.
By the specs it should be one of my favorites; not sweet, aged in ex-Cognac casks, 15 tropical years old... I expected something special, yet, I found it a bit boring.
After reading reviews on this rum for some reason I was expecting it to have a more intense flavor than it has, but its fairly light in flavor compared to the molasses rums I'm used to. This is my first experience with cane juice based rum, and I wasn't sure what to expect, I guess this style is typically a bit lighter in flavor. Other people comment that this isn't exactly the typical rhum agricole style, since its (thankfully) missing "grassy/funky/tequila" notes. I'd agree with that, it does taste more like a lighter version of a molasses based rum. I understand that it may have cane sugar syrup in addition to cane juice, so not a true rhum agricole in the strict sense.
I'm going to cut/paste this into the Estate Reserve 15yr review, since I'm pretty sure they are the same product. Mine says "Reserve du Domaine" on the box, and "Estate Reserve" on the bottle. Also, my bottle has a cork, so apparently they upgraded from the screw top recently, and the labeling is different, the bottle looks nothing like the picture at the top of this thread. There's an image that pops up in this thread in the "Review Images" section, that has a pineapple wearing a pair of sunglasses, next to the pineapple is the box and bottle that matches mine.
One review described its color as "dark amber to brown" whereas mine is what I'd call straw or light amber, about like a pale ale beer color. Not sure what to make of that, mine is nowhere near dark amber to brown. But, in the review images, 4th from left, there's a bottle that clearly contains a dark brown liquid. There are several pictures of bottles with the 1862 sticker on the lower part of the neck, and glasses containing the rum next to them. Those are much darker and what I'd call a mahogany shade compared to the lighter straw color of mine. Has the formulation changed that much over the years? It appears that it has, so keep that in mind while reading through the reviews. The light color of mine is consistent with the main image at the top of this thread, where the light color of the rum is barely visible against the darker brown bottle that contains it.
Bottom line, I'll give this a 7, its a good tasting rum, but not anything I'm going to rush out and buy again. For $63 I was expecting a bit more.
edit: after having the bottle open for a few weeks, and several re-tastes, I'm going to bump this up to an 8. I don't know if it improved in the bottle over that time, or if I started to appreciate the flavor more, but I like it better now than when I first opened it and did the initial review.
I have an "older" bottle of this on my personal rum bar and still savor it! Just a couple of "sips" left! Definitely would get again...
Ty vole! Je to lehké, ale hodně vrstevnaté. Tady hraje hlavní roli velmi dobrý čaj, dub, med, a trošičku Lagavulin 16. V chuti se přidávají oříšky a pokračuje to do lehkého dubového zakončení, s kávovou sedlinou, tabákem a zase Lagavulinem. Wow.
Vůně slabá, nejde nic moc cítit 6
Chuť štiplavá na začátku. Působí ostřeji než na kolik má %. 7

Schönes sattes Bernstein im Glas.
In der Nase, wie auf einem Eichenbrett flambiertes Karamell mit Kräuter und tropischen Früchten im Hintergrund.
Im Gaumen nicht ganz so gediegen wie in der Nase. Die Zunge wird von den 43% Vol. schon ein wenig "angeheizt". Karamell, Eichenholz, ein in Schokolade getunkter Fruchtspies mit angenehm warmen Mundgefühl.
Im Abgang gesellt sich zur Schokolade noch eine dezente Vanillenote.
Ein Rum für Entdecker und Neugierige der Raum, Zeit und Sommertemperaturen braucht um sich zu entfalten.
Ein Agricole der auf Melasse getunt ist.
Beautiful full amber in the glass.
In the nose, as on an oak board flamed caramel with herbs and tropical fruits in the background.
On the palate, not quite as elegant as in the nose. The tongue is already a bit "heated" by the 43% Vol. Caramel, oak, a chocolate-dipped fruit skewer with a pleasantly warm mouthfeel.
The finish is joined by a subtle vanilla note to the chocolate.
A rum who needs space, time and summer temperatures to unfold, for explorers and curious.
An Agricole tuned to molasses.
