Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Sampled at the Laka Lono Rum Club tasting on 7/18/18. This is boring and mild. I don't understand the buzz behind it. Perhaps a good rum to start your tasting journey as it has no personality.

This rum for me was dry which I like. Not overly sweet with a nice smooth lingering taste. Aroma was mild. It is a fine rum for sure but really no WOW factor.

Rispetto ad altri rum che ho provato risulta più forte, ma il bruciore é gestibile. Buon da avere, per ogni tanto cambiare.

I was looking forward to this one as it is described as a more premium undosed alternative to Diplomatico. After sitting for a while, it develops very sweet caramel notes very similar to Diplo RE. On the palate it has the same texture as well, but it is nowhere near as sweet. Where it falls down however, is the very hot finish. For a 40% rum solera aged 4-25 years, it is very harsh on the throat, so much so that I feel it harms the initially enticing experience, leaving me disappointed. Not awful, but very disappointing for the premium price.
Update: after subsequent tastings, I am warming to this rum. Even so, probably not great value, but a nice sipping rum if you like it a little sweeter.

Weak flavor. Not overly alcoholic yet not especially smooth. Not bad, but not especially good.

It has everything that is needed! Nice colour, gooooood smell, and sweet soft flavour. I like it very much.

Overall very drinkable. At first very noticeable alcohol, then it smoothes out a bit. Very pleasant taste, although not very complex. No surprises at the end.
