Have had this 14yo Montebello from the Carrere distillery for a while and now it was time to test it.
The Carrere distillery is quite young. They started up 1930 and from 1966 it has been operated by the Marsolle family.
It’s vintage 2000 bottled 2015 at ABV 50,6%. There’s just 1250 bottles blended from four different ex bourbon casks.
The aroma is very elegant and woody and I recognize marzipan, chocolate and cinnamon.
In mouth and palate the aromas coming back and it’s dry, full bodied and extremely smooth. It’s actually quite hard to understand that the ABV is 50,6%.
During the quite long finish it’s going on in the same way but it’s also quite spicy.
To feel the elegance of this rum it’s in my opinion important to keep it for a while in your mouth before you swallow.
