Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled from fresh cane juice before aging at 7544 feet at 62 °F (17 °C).
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.
This is a delicious rum that is smooth and full of flavour.
It's quality exceeds the price tag.
Nose : sweet , caramel,sugar,nutty , spiced, oak
Taste: sweet , little bit alcoholic , caramel,sugar, honey, little bit fruity .
It´a good Rum ,not to sharp
not in my top 10 but in the top 20 ,and allways at home.

This is a sweet rum that makes it an easy entry to the World of rum. And somehow makes a standard to compare to, cause almost everybody knows it. But many People either love it or hate it. In Denmark it has become cheaper, and some People Think it's because it is cheaper produced=Lower quality. Some People know, it's because Diegao get so Big tax reductions in the US that they could give it away for free, and still earn money!
Just Yes! Don't dear pollute this, try straight up first in a good tasting glass then add a nice cube for a whole new variation on the nuances.
Very smooth and sweet full of toffee flavors
Like many of the better aged rums, this one has delicious caramel and molasses tasting notes with a hint of vanilla on the nose. The alcohol sneaks onto the palate to cut the sugar, exhibiting a mildly peppery finish. On the rocks, this rum expresses more sweetness than when served straight up. Served straight up, the alcohol is slightly more pronounced. Either way, this is a nicely balanced sipper.
Very nice and smoothe rum. A balanced sweetness with just a hint of dryness in the finish. Find it a bit overrated though.

Min introduktion til rommens verden. Dejlig sød og ikke voldsomt sprittet. En fyldig rom der alligevel ikke er vildt kompleks. En rigtig dejlig all-around rom man ikke behøver tænke for meget over.

This is one rum that I enjoy and I don't mind that it not a hot rum anymore. It's become widely availible now'a'days.
It has subtle and balanced spice notes, a bit og sweetness that leaves a fine "fatty" mouthfeel.
It's a must try, but there a better and more interesting ones around.

Ce rhum est une énorme déception pour moi! Trop sirupeux et peu, trop peu d'arômes. Du sucre du sucre et du sucre à part ça pas grand chose... Pour un rhum à ce tarif c'est juste pas possible.
This rum is complex and full of flavors. Smooth going down with a slow warming burn afterwards. Great with just a few ice cubes to bring out the flavors.
I see a lot of comparisons between Zacapa Solera 23 and Zaya Reserve, but to me they are completely different animals. Both are smooth, but Zacapa Solera 23 has a richer more full-bodied flavor to it with a slight sharpness. A light hint of smoky caramel it finishes with a sweetness that belies the full body. An excellent overall rum.
This rum just gets better and better. It's the best option on my latest Carnival Cruise and there are some bartenders that KNOW how to pour a good double. I can't get enough of it! Rating Upped!
This rum is a great sipping rum and enjoyed best neat. This is a cigar rum where there is little bite. This though in my tasting is one dimensional. It has one flavor going on for the most part. I will soon sample the 25 year and I hope it breaks into uni-dimensional at that point. No hang over choice high quality.

Some of the casks used in this blend are apparently Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, and it shows. Very sweet, sherried flavours that were way over the top for me. Things settled a bit with a few drops of water, but still a quite disappointing rum given its hype and reputation.
As for tasting notes, I got dried fruits, dark chocolate, a bit of coffee and vanilla on the nose; the taste was very sweet and PX-ish, with burnt sugar, toffee, a touch of figs, and then a weird tannin-like flavour in the development, before the finish. The finish was short and sweet, with chocolate, spices and ripe grapes. Some more things come out with water, vanilla and spices predominantly. In sum a fairly overrated "rum liqueur" in my book.
