4 years ago I moved from enjoying a good bourbon to sipping rum. I find Rum smoother, sweeter, and I loose myself when sipping rum into the feeling of being in the Caribbean. On my last trip to St Thomas we found Botany and not only enjoyed it but went though 6-8 bottles between 4 of us in one weeks time. this is an outstanding smooth treat. I say better than Zacapa at half the cost.

this is the best rum for the money . Found it in Nov. 2019 and went back to St Thomas in Oct. 2020 with the 2nd item on my list was to get more Botany Bay Rum . Becky and I brought back the max possible again this last trip . The best sipping when very cold from the freezer. I would never add ice to this rum.

Used to brag on this rum - a friend would bring me bottles from trips to the Caribbean.

Unfortunately, one of the bottles he brought back - with original cork and sealed cap - was totally skunked. Tasted like they had used moldy molasses to temper the blend. Upon contacting the manufacturer to let them know they had a problem, and even going so far as to send samples at my own expense, they replied that it had a bit of "off taste node to the flavor profile". BS - it was skunked.

So unless you want to take a chance, I'd buy something different. Apparently there is a problem with their quality control that they don't seem willing to address.

Blend of 3Y Bajan, 5Y Guatemalan rum, and unagedTrinidad and Martinique rums, All cane juice - no molasses, and a mix of column and pot still distillations make for a sweet and slightly grassy/floral front and sweet & fruity finish.

I picked up a bottle of this on my cruise to St Thomas (bottle 882, batch 24 July 21), and I expected this to be a little better based on the current ratings (Four 10's, Four 9's, Two 8's). But soon after I tried it, I realized that all the 10's came from people with only one review, and all of the 9's came from people with only one or two reviews.

Only one person (Joola69) had over 2 reviews as of this review, and I believe he may have been generous with an 8. I'll give this a high 7.

Smells and tastes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Nicely sweet and smooth. Perhaps not a strong enough flavor profile for my liking (could use just a bit more abv. :-) ).

I received a bottle as a gift last year and really enjoyed it. Very excited that I can buy it online now. Just received my first order of 4 bottles and loving it with Fever Tree Ginger Beer on the rocks! Very smooth as a sipper too. To be shared with family members and very close friends only!

This rum is great for sipping; smooth and full of flavor.
But add a splash of tonic and a small lime wedge and it is refreshing!

This rum line has a diverse line of products. By mistake, I opened the liqueur first and found it thick with aroma, a smooth taste and great for sipping. I dropped in an ice cube to see if it changed, and it exploded with other flavors that were not evident without it. It is darker than the Havensight, though smoother, as you would expect from a liqueur.
The Botony Bay Reserve is a great Friday night 'date night' drink. I like it on the rocks with a squeeze of Lemon (instead of Lime). The first one goes down so smooth, you have to have two. Try it -- you'll like it ! as the old saying goes.

This is a great sipping rum for the price. Smooth but on the sweeter side with hints of floral and vanilla. I like a bit more bite to it, but this is nice if thatโ€™s what you like.

Absolutely unbelievable that this rum is rated so low. But it's, I guess understandable with the rating you gave, collectively for Dictator Rum. The Botany Bay Rum is exclusive to the Island and not for export. That said it one of the finest rums I've ever tasted. When we take a cruise it has to port in St. Thomas so I can get my allotment of bottles to bring back to the states. This rum rates to me above 9.0 for my taste.
