Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.
This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.
This rum is easy to find, so that's a big plus, and it's not too bad. Smooth it is not. Perhaps as a mixer.
A good mixer. Ginger Ale and lime is always a refreshing, enjoyable drink. I find Ginger Ale a way better than Coke. Give it a try.
This was my second introduction into aged rum and still a favorite. Great with coke, AMAZING in cocktails, and a the only Bacardi rum I'll drink.
I am not a fan of Bacardi rum. I find it very plain and unimaginative. I was given this bottle and figured it worth a try. The amber colour is nice but it lacks the flavours of other ambers. While it is not bad for a Bacardi offering it is not one for the avid rum taster.
I rather like to mix this rum, although this one you can sip. Actually it's the first valuable Bacardi that you could sip without to puke.
Nice smooth rum
Un très bon rhum Bacardi, il faut l'admettre.
Un very good rum from Bacardi, we must admit.
The best of Bacardi's production but it remains a Bacardi smoot an featureless
Really nice tasting rum. Smooth, with a little bit of smoke and a lot of dark berry fruits. Definitely a sipper. If you like Appleton, this is a rum for you. Also one of the cheapest out there, no matter where you are. Sorry Bacardi haters, but sometimes you gotta give the devils their due.
Nice little taste
A great smooth taste. Warm, creamy finish.
This inexpensive aged rum is a good sipper and great with cola. My wife's favorite with Coke.
It's a nice mellow golden rum, slightly sweet with a clean finish.
Orange scent mixed with Caramel notes medium body with a light pepper spicy feel.
To be consumed staight on in a Cuba Libre
I always like to taste every rum straight because the flavors are there.. So the 8 year Bacardi stands perfect to my mouth.. Not to heavy a little bit complex of caramel ,cinnamon and pepper at the end. Has no duration to the aftertaste so I think that it would be perfect for Mohito and other rum cocktails
an inexpensive rum with some flavor.
Though IMO there are quite a few other rums in the $20-25 price range that are better, such as Pusser's, El Dorado 12 yr, Abuelo 7 yr or Matusalem 15 yr. Widely available and a good go-to.
One thing I feel I should mention - Mojitos should be made with a light rum. This might be good with mint and lime, but it doesn't make a true mojito.
One of my favourite rums, Bacardi 8 tastes great straight, with coke and makes banging Old Fashioneds.
Great entry level rum to convince newbies.
Very smooth with a smokey, almost Scotch-like finish. An excellent sipping rum with good (if not very strong) flavor, and lacking the heavy kick of many aged rums. I'd recommend this as a first step for anyone looking to explore sipping rums. It's an excellent value for the price (I paid $19.99 for 750 mL), one that doesn't make me hate myself if I decide to use it as a mixer.
For the price, it's delicious. Great way to open your eyes and see what sipping rums can be and test them out. Strong molasses flavor, has a auburn color, and a bit sharper than some others that are pricier. But, clearly, that's what you're paying for.
This is a nice smooth rum
For me this is the best Bacardi product ive tried so far, it has good balance and is still quite light at the same time as having some nice flavours come through with fruit, spices and vanilla, as mentioned makes a decent Mojito!
