Bacardi 8 rum

Bacardi 8

had this rum recently

United States | Aged | 40% ABV

Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.

This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.

Fairly sweet, maybe even a little too much, easy to drink

One of my favourites. Nice to drink straight, no need to mix

I'm not a Bacardi fan. But I have to admit that this one taste really ok.

Perfect for sipping. A bit too generic perhaps, but not boring.

Light nose but solid flavor. Smooth going down, no after taste to speak of at all. Solid supper but unspectacular

This rum is an excellent whiskey substitute. Price is fair. A little harsh to sip. In an old fashion though - very good

It's good, but it hasn't that complexity as Havana 7y.o. It's a little bit flat and empty.

Third rum of my Puerto Rico trip. Solidly in second place slightly behind Ron de Barrio 2 star and way above Don Q 7. This one is smooth and easy drinking but lacking what makes great rums great. One of those rums you have at a party to start with a "standard" rum, then impressive your guests with the good stuff later.

It's smooth and easy to drink. Nothing notable. Great deal for an 8 year. Not much going on. I got it for a column still aged rum as an ingredient in the Smuggler's Cove book. I'll probably get in again just to have on hand for that.

I am not brave enough to buy an entire bottle of the widely-hated Bacardi, even though I try to be open to rums I havenโ€™t tried. When I noticed a sample in the store, I decided to give it a try. A 5cl bottle is always a safe option.

The color of this rum is light and golden, with low opacity.

The aroma is moderately sweet, composed of almonds, banana, coconut, nuts and nail polish remover. Spikes of ethanol appear from time to time. Long breathing makes this rum smell more vodka-like and sweet.

First sipps reveal the sweet and spicy mixture which partially covers the ethanol, present in the background. Some nutty notes can be sensed but it tastes mostly like neutral alcohol mixed with sugar syrup.

Unfortunately, my opinion about Bacardi didn't improve. This rum is a classical example of attempting to cover the neutral alcohol with sugar and spacings.
There are 14 gold medals printed on the bottle label. The manufacturer lets us know that this rum won many competitions and makes it more appealing. I examined the medals with a magnifying glass. The awards come from years 1899-1927. Apparently, this rum must have deteriorated significantly over the last 100 years.
