Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Bacardi 151 rum is one of the most well known overproof rums on the market. 151 tends to be the most common overproof strength because in pot stills this is the natural dillilation proof, but overproof rums in generally can range from 100-170+.
This rum appears to have been designed solely for show, either setting fire to stuff (cocktails) or "one-upmanship" (my balls are bigger than yours) types of drink challenges. Look it up on Youtube to find a video of a Latino guy skulling an entire bottle, I don't know if he is still alive, but for sure he puked after the video. This is not a tasty rum, it is a hazardous material.
I use to drink this stuff all the time because it was the one thing that I didn't have to share at parties.
Not enjoyable at all.
something to kill people throat with really bad rum
I bought 3 bottles of this stuff. I opened one and it tasted like industrial solvent. If you put rum coke you can hardly tell the difference between any rums, but if you drink it straight you'll know right away what I am talking about with this one!
Fortunately Kroger took the other 2 unopened bottles back. But I was still stuck with one opened bottle, and it's a sin to waste rum, even low-end rum. So I cut the Bacardi 50-50 with Cruzan, and somehow strugged through it.
I couldn't do it again, except perhaps in a siege in wartime.
It's a high proof mixer that's all that really needs to be said
To all the people who want's to get drunk as fast as possible... this is the rum for you!
The taste is not great, but hey, you don't buy this to drink it straight up.
More bite than the Bacardi Silver and Gold, 151 is still lacking the flavor that you associate with Caribbean rums.
This is a straightforward ball busting overproof that I primarily use to float atop other rum cocktails.
Except for doing a single "silly shot" here and there, I never mix this rum except to top off (or to flame) cocktails containing more appropriate mixing rums.
It sure does serve its purpose!
I prefer my rum straight or on the rocks so this one is to strong for me. I guess this would be a good rum for getting hammered.
Recieved only a slightly higher rating than Bacardi Superir from me simply because it takes less of it to forget you're drinking terrible rum.m spend the money to get a better bottle.... unless you're looking to lb wow party guests with flaming shots.
I've only used this to make holiday coquito, and even then it's still a bit harsh. Everyone complained it was too strong. I've since switched to regular proof rum.
A long time ago in Korea we cleaned out the local shop's stock of Bacardi gold rum and got the 151 instead. Was only after a drink or three did we discover that we were scoffing twice the proof than expected. Hilarity ensued.
Other than for crazy cocktails, not sure why this would be used for pleasure.
This is only good if you're at a party or if you're an alcoholic looking to save big, otherwise it is not good, very strong, not for me.
Definitely not for the faint of heart! I think the only purpose for this lava is to add potency to mixed drinks. To each his own but surely not my cup of tea
Best way to heat up a cocktail, it won't take over or get lost in the mix. Most will like it as a gift, but hope for lot's of mixer.
Goes well with anything. Complete package
Good for camping if you need to light a stove. Its 2 in 1:)
Yes its a very strong rum and its not going to be a smooth sipper but Bacardi's overproof offering is just too much. Fine in a very low ratio with a mixer but at that point why not go for a standard 40% rum.
...after reading all of the reviews, but still not my favourite overproof.
No other rum adds kick to your mixed drink like 151. Not to be taken straight or on the rocks.
High alcohol content makes little room for enjoying any flavor that may exist, it might as well have been clear. If you're drinking to forget then this is the one. 151 is a cruel mistress that one can use an excuse for inexcusable behavior.
Had this in New Orleans as part of a mix with another rum and fruit punch (Hurricane)...I was set after one drink and I am sure this was the rum that sent it over the top. I tried it by itself once...never again.
It is used as floaters in drinks or set on fire. If you seriously drink this as your drink of choice, you have a problem deep than your liver. Just leave it on the shelf and move on.
Good considering the alcohol content.
