Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
I tried it cause of the name brand and, I love my rum! Always trying new rums...Although, to each their own. I won’t buy again as the smoothness was fine but spices and aftertaste left me to be not a fan.
It's an alright spiced rum, heavy Nutmeg, clove, sugary tatse. It's smells great but on tasting it leads to a very eggnog esc flavor, like creamy and the right spices but also... Like an eggy taste that eggnog has.
Not a bad rum smell not too impressive first taste not harsh but smooth kind of flat needs more to it overall didn't hate it so gave it a passing score
Looking for under-proofed spiced rum to drink neat but sadly this is not it. Has some interesting blending but the weird additional taste is awful. Like kerosene. i will not buy more. The corked glass bottle with finger holds is cute.
2nd edit — The aftertaste, still.
3rd Edit — Pour the rest of this bottle out or keep going? This is actually not enjoyable but can do. My compliments to the brand, on the right track but really need to change something. Good spices and nice heat. Aftertaste ugh.
4th Edit - Finished the bottle. what’s next?
The aroma on this spiced rum is the best part. One is led to believe that they may have found the ultimate spiced rum. Then one takes a sip and the bitterness washes all of those dreams away. Ice cubes cannot even tame it, so why bother using it in a mixer. I am being generous with my rating of a 5.
This rum also inspires a great analogy. It is like the sweet smelling and very beautiful woman that entices you in. You fall for her and then realize that you are stuck with the woman from hell. Only the very clever ones can talk their way out of these situations. Well with this rum, you have the luxury of pouring the rest of this shit down the toilet. I am not there yet because I spent twenty bucks on it. However, I can see that day coming.
On a good note, the best of the Blue Chair Bay Rums are Coconut, Vanilla, and Banana. Once cream is added, it ruins them. Also stay away from this Spiced rum.
Update April 26, 2019: I tried adding two parts of guava nectar to one part of this rum over lots of ice. Granted, it becomes a low alcoholic content drink, but it tastes just as good as some of the restaurant quality tropical drinks. Your guests would never guess that their drink is just two very simple ingredients. Guava nectar has saved this stuff from going down the toilet. Mango nectar mixes almost as well with this rum.
