Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year

Virgin Islands, British | Aged | 40% ABV

The Great British Admiralty first served rum daily to its Royal Navy sailors over 300 years ago until the ration was abolished in 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias bought the recipe rights, formed Pusser’s Ltd. in the British Virgin Islands, and for the first time made the rum it available for public consumption.

Pusser’s British Navy rum today is the same blend of five West Indian rums as the British Admiralty issued to sailors.

Known as the “single malt of rum” Pusser’s British Navy rum is pot stilled using a similar method as that for single malt scotches, and with no artificial flavors is 100% natural.

Pussers has grown in me as probably my favorite sipper on the rocks, reason? it’s delicious and that’s it! I could go on about the slightly funky pot still nose and the smokey Demerara flavor but in the end my taste says it’s a 10! I have tried a LOT up to $100 4square etc, but this in my opinion is better:)

A smooth, richflavoured rum, with a firm, spicy nose. A great sipper, with a mild spicy burn, filled with oak, caramel, and some baking spices. Surely got some references to "the black tot, the last Consignment", but at a lot more affordable Price, making it hard to choose from 1 bottle black tot or 27 bottles of Pusser's! Or NOT! The Pusser's worth every penny and get an extra bottle in This rating for the affordable price.

great funk rum with "finish that goes on forever" (c). no reason to describe all nuances, cos everyone who somehow appears at this site, should definitely try this one at least once. as for me I'm gonna enjoy it again and again

I bought it because it was at a bargain price, and also because I readed a lot about the legendary rum of British Navy. The choise fell on the blue label with 40% ABV, I thought that the "original" 54% ABV could be...too much!

Nose: when I opened the bottle, I immediately heard the ship's bell ringing in the room. What the heck! It opens with a strong mature banana, powerful grapes, sultanas, vanilla and then caramel, cotton candy, chocolate, brown sugar, an hint of thick leather and elegant woods.

Taste: the taste is full bodied, it repeats what you've felt at the nose with some additions. Again comes mature bananas and other mature fruits. Surprisingly kick in a delicate touch of citrus fruits (orange and bitter orange, for the most) and then a touch of coconut, cocoa, delicate woods. It's lightly sweet but with a touch of sour.
But it's at the end that come in a lot of round, smooth custard note, with butter and again cocoa. It's persistent, it remains for a long time, and it's awesome. If you close your eyes, it seems like you're eating pastry!

Notes: the persistency of the flavours it's very noticeable in this rum. I think that could be the blend with Guyana rums (usually in the sweet side), but believe me when I say that this rum can easily replace a dessert. Try it with 70%/80% dark chocolate and you will not regret it.

Love on the first sip.
This rum has everything for me. Satisfyingly rich and complex aroma, enough dirtyness to be interesting in the long run. Hint of sweetness. Molasses, dried fruit, warmth, hint of gasoline.
There is no Jamaican rum in Pusser's, but it tastes as if there was.

I really like this. And the Gunpowder version. Only rum so far that I am confident I will buy over and over. On my fourth bottle, and I rarely (never?) bought second bottles of anything else.

To me, this is exactly what "typical" rum should taste like. Of course, I am aware that there is a multitude of rum styles and that there is a lot of variation, which is great. But somehow this is the smell and taste that I would associate with "rum".

I don't think you will find any better value for your money. Excellent, excellent, excellent, thrice excellent.
There are, strictly speaking, better rums out there. But even for double, nay, thrice the money, they are not easy to find. If you like the style at least a little, you cannot go wrong with this.

This review is about the All-Guyana version. I have an old bottle of a different blend, including Barbados and Virgin Island rums, which is good but not as good as this rum.
Having said that, I very much enjoy a half and half mix of Pusser's and Appleton Rare 12 Years.

I compare all the rums I drink against Pusser's. I love this rum and it hosts so many memories. Cheers!
