Pusser’s British Navy Rum 15-Year is a blend of five rums from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados which are produced in mainly wooden pot stills. The blend is aged for 15 years.
The company derives its name from the British Navy 'Purser' who distributed a daily 'tot' of rum ration to each sailor - a tradition which lasted from 1655 until 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias obtained the rights to blend the original recipe of the British Navy Rum.
Pusser's British Navy Rum is casually known as “Nelson’s Blood” as a nod to the famous death of Admiral Nelson. After being mortally wounded in a naval battle in 1805, Nelson’s body was preserved in a barrel of rum.
Alkohol: 40 %
Původ: Britské Panenské ostrovy
Aroma: Hodně výrazná, sladce kořenitá, až opulentní vůně, připomíná mi perník. Koření, čokoláda, marmeláda. Hřejivý dojem. Včelí plástve, kůže, v druhé vlně pak i něco těžších květinových vůní. (91 b)
Chuť: Sladkost jen mírná (asi tak 1/3), stylově mi trochu připomíná sudy po sherry, ale dle informací výrobce víme jen tolik, že si poležel 15 let v opálených sudech. Suchá těžká kořenitost, závan pendreku, v dochuti pak karamel a připálené rozinky z vánočky. Přes to vše mi přijde zároveň jemný. (87 b)
Leaves a nice peppery molasses tasye in the back of the throat.
When I first smelled this rum I was worried that I would not like the taste. It smells acrid and bitter and almost sappy. I also smell brown sugar as well.
I was surprised by the amazing taste of spice and brown sugar; very smooth.
It does have a woody taste but it is not strong and is balanced with the other flavours
It reminded me of some of the EL Dorado rums I like so much.
I would recommend this to anyone
I'm in complete harmony with the analysis of Da'rum from Germany: This rum is sweet with a strong touch of vanilla and a very long woody finish.
I presume that the woody fnish is the reason why some people do not like this rum, mainly people enjoying sweet rums. I must admit that I've hesitated between 8 and 9 ... Compared to its equivalent 15 years El Dorado Special Reserve for example, I find this rum a bit less complex and fruity.
My ideal rating would have been an 8.5 because it is superior to the Clement Vieux 6 yo agricole rum (rated 8) with which I discovered the world of aged rums.
I completely agree with the advice of Scott T considering the rating of Verner Canatsey: This should never have been so much underrated. My biigest disappointment with an extra old rum was about the Diplomatico Reserva rum (6 yo, rated 6) which is definitely very dry, slightly astringent, very tannic with notes of spices, predominantly pepper ... Verner, never try this one ^^!
Not a fantastic sipper but nice in a simple mixed drink. Had my bottle for years so has probably changed over time
This is what you imagine Nelsons boys would drink. No wonder they were fearless. The real thing.
Essential sipping rum, heard the new blend and label is terrible . Sweet complex , honey , aroma - smooth burn
Or a good girls. Has lots of flavour without being sugary. One of my favorites
Not my kind of rum.
Sharp alcohol taste with oak, and slightly bitter finish.
Delicious, wonderful noise and deeply rich flavours.
As an unexpirienced rum drinke, the first sips of this rum where a little bit simmilar as a soft whiskey for me. After a couple of sips, it tasted more Like a rum with little hints of sweetness, and Lots of different flavours. I did expected more after all the good comments. But it was still Fine.
A great rum, if you see it somewhere, buy this bootle.
Like somebody wrote below, taste like a 100€ one
Tried this while in Bangkok at an upscale Rum bar, lovely sipping rum which seemed to have more flavour once ice was added. I'll definitely keep an eye out for this bottle on my travels.
This is different that what I expected. The nose gives you a sense that it is going to be overpoweringly sweet. Fruits and molasses are evident. The initial taste is quite the contrary. There is a sweetness, light fruitiness, and the ending has a sweetness that creeps up. Very little burn to finish. I believe it would pair well with a cigar.
This is a tasty one, but...the sugar. Phew. It covers many aspects. Recommended - with some doubts.
Love Pussers original and the gunpowder proof is delicious but stronger. This is smoother and less sweet. Not as enjoyable
This had so much range, and layers, and depth. Like cherries tickling my taint, I need more.
Take the money.
I get aromas of oak, varnish, hints of caramel sweetness and alcohol. Balanced a bit towards dry. Warming but not hot. Long astringent finish. Charcoal? Great body and long legs. What you would expect of a Navy rum and more. Not at all bad. Just a bit course. I'll sip it neat or over a cube or two. Purists may chastise me but a twist of lime would be a great addition. Perhaps a little over budget at $70 but I'd recommend!
A rum you can't help but love
Although there is a lot of added sugar
This rum tastes like it should cost a lot more
Super smooth, a real favorate
smells horrible, probably the worst smelling rum I've ever smelled. Smells like pure bleach to me. The taste wasn't much better extremely harsh not smooth at all tastes like some type of a cleaning agent. Horrible overall, I drain poured it. Bad bottle?
Not my cup of tea, but great nose! Caramel, wood, raspberry, sugar in the mouth, stays quite a while... youngest = what it says, unlike with rum soltera....
Not sure how this is “aged” extremely harsh which is what I’ve found with Navy rums. Dig the tradition and all but hard to just down a drink. If it didn’t title itself “aged” i’d be easier on it but aged usually means smoother and here not so much, I can forgive it from Santa Teresa because it has great flavor but this is gasoline with wood notes
Smoooth rum. Nice nose and hints of chocolate on the front and back end
Most likely aged in Whiskey cask.
Caramel, espresso, marmalade, marzipan, crème de cacao, spice, vanilla cream, black pepper, Whiskey Cask....
Outstanding Rum with Sweet, Rich and Very particular Aroma...
