Pusser’s British Navy Rum 15-Year is a blend of five rums from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados which are produced in mainly wooden pot stills. The blend is aged for 15 years.
The company derives its name from the British Navy 'Purser' who distributed a daily 'tot' of rum ration to each sailor - a tradition which lasted from 1655 until 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias obtained the rights to blend the original recipe of the British Navy Rum.
Pusser's British Navy Rum is casually known as “Nelson’s Blood” as a nod to the famous death of Admiral Nelson. After being mortally wounded in a naval battle in 1805, Nelson’s body was preserved in a barrel of rum.
Every rum lover should have a bottle of this.
Most likely aged in Whiskey cask.
Caramel, espresso, marmalade, marzipan, crème de cacao, spice, vanilla cream, black pepper, Whiskey Cask....
Outstanding Rum with Sweet, Rich and Very particular Aroma...
I'm kind of new to rum being a single malt whiskey person but this rum has definitely turned me. I've been trying quite a few different rums, even got the 24 dram from Masters of Malt. They only allow 1 bottle of this Pussers per order. What's that tell you? By far this one keeps up with those costing hundreds. No kidding! I'm sold on this and get it every chance.I can, since it doesnt last long. Especially when it's in the Pusser's 15yr old Trafalger decanter! Like those good old scotch's ( such as Glenfiddich 21 yr old in a Wedgewood decanter for instance, which by the way is aged in RUM casks! $600-900. Wouldn't it be something if they used Pusser's casks.) Why make a decanter if it's not the best? Good question?AYE! Update, I've tried a few more finely aged rums. OK, so it's obvious they put sugar in their rum but I gotta tell you, not only do they know how to distill rum but they also know just how much sugar to add to put this on top period. Still #1 in my book!
Cracking rum, this!
The first thing I noticed was the lovely smell. It has a strong oak and molasses aroma to it with some tropical fruit in there too.
On the taste, well first of all it's... really good! That's the first thing you notice. It has a mixture of sweetness and bitterness which is quite interesting and seems to come and meander in and out over the time that you drink it - even more interesting. There is oak and molasses, fruit (particularly banana and pineapple), a hint of raisn and date. The aftertaste is an interesting slow fade of rooibos tea, with a tingle on the tip of the tongue - a sweetness and a sort of coffee and tobacco bitterness sailing around in there too.
It is a much more viscous rum than most - it has sticky legs and is a little syruppy - but not too sweet. Any sweetness here is balanced out.
If it's not far off what the British Navy drank, no wonder they were not keen to lose the Rum Ration in 1970!! Though I think what they had was not quite as good as this - aside from the Captains and Admirals.
Another beauty of a find ... Worthy of all the awards ...
Can't beat Pusser's Rum
This had so much range, and layers, and depth. Like cherries tickling my taint, I need more.
Take the money.
A rum you can't help but love
Although there is a lot of added sugar
This rum tastes like it should cost a lot more
Super smooth, a real favorate
This rum is a true masterpiece. Perfect in any points. Price is high and it deserve it. Buy again if I can find other bottles.
Over 2,000 aged rums enjoyed over the past 15 years and Pusser's 15 year old rum is still strong on my Top 15 list. Very smooth aged rum, plenty going on flavorwise, no burn at all at the end, and the most surprising thing is the strong tobacco smell in your mouth lingering for a bit at the end. So different than all the rest and that is the reason why I like it so much.
This rum for me is a best balanced rum I ever had, perfect harmony of sweetness and full body, lot of flavours, not overly sweet, strong enough, different with every sip, just loved it
After I really enjoyed the Blue Label Pusser's I decided to buy one of the 15yo for 35€ on amazon, what was really reasonable and a great price. Normallly this Rum is more in the 45-50€ area. And yes this Rum has everything. Deep, complex smell, heavy long lasting taste. The only questions is, if it is worth to pay the double price of the Blue lable, which is yet great.
Up there with the 1703 in the fact that i would give this a 10 if i hadn't tried the Appleton 50yr. As well as being aged in wood for 15 years, Pusser's are one of only 3 rum producers left that distil the spirit in wooden stills. Much smoother than the original Pusser's with dark demerara and deep spice at first with a rich, raisiny, oaky long, long finish. One of the best rums ive tried, Definitely in my top 5 so far!
Probably not the most complex or delicate rum you'll ever try, but if it's a big bold sugary dose of lovely rumness your after you've found it!
Alkohol: 40 %
Původ: Britské Panenské ostrovy
Aroma: Hodně výrazná, sladce kořenitá, až opulentní vůně, připomíná mi perník. Koření, čokoláda, marmeláda. Hřejivý dojem. Včelí plástve, kůže, v druhé vlně pak i něco těžších květinových vůní. (91 b)
Chuť: Sladkost jen mírná (asi tak 1/3), stylově mi trochu připomíná sudy po sherry, ale dle informací výrobce víme jen tolik, že si poležel 15 let v opálených sudech. Suchá těžká kořenitost, závan pendreku, v dochuti pak karamel a připálené rozinky z vánočky. Přes to vše mi přijde zároveň jemný. (87 b)
A great rum, if you see it somewhere, buy this bootle.
Like somebody wrote below, taste like a 100€ one
Took me some time to find a bottle in town but well worth the wait. Very smooth and "clean". I like the blue label but the red label is a grown up version. Lost is the sharp, punch in the face from other Navy rums, replaced with a satisfying drink. Well done sir, well done.
A must have. An aged and mellowed version of the blue, slightly sweeter and more noticeable vanilla due to the mellowing of the rum in oak. This is rum at it's best made by non greedy craftsmen.
that's it. all the best parts of pussers with the rich molasses, barrel, spice, and smoothed out from the age without being like licking a barrel.
Heavy rum that will surprise your taste. Price higher but I do not regret buying
Taste:no added sugar,oak,nonsharp,adult
Tail:very moderate,with no alcohol punch
One of the best in my cabinet. The bottle/etiquette could be nicer, but the taste is great.Recommended to drink at 13C.
This is awesome rum if you are in the mood for it. My first experience was not too good but second one revealed all possibilities of this rum.
Aroma has sweet notes a taste includes tones of orange and smokey wood a bit reminds me whiskey. But all that round and smooth and very enjoyable.
I can't accept that anyone could rate this Rum below an 8. One of the few that I drink straight.
I love this rum. It has been hard to find in Canada but with good friends state side I get this as a wonderful Christmas gift. A very fine flavour like a true rum should be.
