This is rum as I like it - rare to come around. Sehr gut.

I have a soft spot for Conde de Cuba; they have a somewhat different approach to rum than most and deliver very elegant, rather light and crisp rums with lots of fruit and all well balanced. They are not overly complex but are interesting as a lot is going on but always a bit in the background. Timid if you like.

Because of all the aging the 15yo (well, solera) has some bolder oaky and peppery notes than most but is still a 'light' rum. More nutty than the others but with a sweet (not sweetened) fruity counterpart and still very recognizable as a CdC-rum. Darker notes of coffee/chocolate are also in the mix and, especially in the nose there is a prominent floral component. For an elegant rum there is quite a prolonged finish with oaky tannines, mocha and dark chocolate.

I really like it and it has its place right on top at the CdC range (5-7-11-15yo) but why do I rate the others an 8 and this one a mere 7?

The problem is its price tag; I can still justify the €40 for the 11yo but at €50 the 15yo just doesn't deliver enough. Example; for less I can buy the Colombian (also an (even more) aged solera) 'la Hechicera Extra Anejo' which is certainly richer in taste and complexity as the CdC 15yo. So the rum is good but no repeat buy for me at this price point. I whish I could rate it a 9 but I have to put honesty before sympathy her.

not so sweet, not "stinging" at all, fragrant at the end after sherry

From a 15 year old rum i was expecting a stronger and more powerful rum with a more tasty body.
The smell is pretty shalliw with not a specific smell to reconize. The color is average/light and the taste is pretty dissapointed. The first thing i taste is a watety rum with not a body. This rum is missing body, flavour and character.

Color: Light to medium gold brown
Smell: floral at first, followed by a hint spice
Taste: light and crisp to start. Then introduce a little air and BAM! The spices and pepper explode within your mouth.
