This 8 year old Fiji rum got turned into a liqueur - very sweet and clocking in at 35% compared to its counterparts at 40%.
Deep and rich flavor - cacao, coffee, coconut and baking spices.
Too sweet for my palate, but chilled its a nice shot and in your coffee, instead of a coffee liqueur in cocktails, or just over vanilla ice-cream as dessert - it’s phenomenal.
Although by definition a liqueur and not a standard “ rum” this stuff is why I have so many unfinished bottles of other rum. Sure the Dictator, Diplamatico and top shelf stuff all goes, but the Ratu stands alone, and unfortunately the issue is with this rum that once the cap comes off, it rarely ends up back on before it quickly evaporates. The grazes and cuts on elbows and knees, the gastric ulcer, marriage counselling, early onset dementia, blackouts and gout are a small price to pay for the almost religious experience of being able to attain states of advanced refreshment with this titan of the rum world. There is not a rum drinker I know, and even some of those strange folk that don’t like rum, that have tried Ratu and not been stricken with the immediate need to drink more. A lot more. It may be so good it is actually evil. That is why I only gave it 9/10, just in case it has got some kind of supernatural omen in every bottle that makes you want it. The only reason I go to work now is to buy more. Try it if ye dare, and at thine own peril!
On ice, such a nice flavour, also smell great.
Issue is keep drinking it like a juice!
Got this in a rum advent calendar and whilst most of them smelt and tasted very similar this was a pleasant change.
Really sweet coconut and chocolate taste/smelling liquer. At 35% vol this could get messy as it's too easy to drink.
Caramel-coloured mahogany in the glass.
In the nose extremely sweet to coconut, caramel, chocolate, orange and lemon peel. Behind it you can still see the original rum with fruit and wood scents.
In the palate sweet like syrup, coconut, caramel, chocolate.... Bounty ! (yes, Rasmus) But also red berries, citrus fruits, honey, braised bananas.....
In the finish long and sticky sweet, chocolate, coconut and caramel linger for a long time.
A very sweet liqueur (sugar bomb) that is a lot of fun. As dessert or for doing nothing, for liqueur- and sweetrum lovers.
Very nice liqueur style of rum. If you are looking for a soft, vanilla, cocoa rum, it is a good choice.
Like others have said, it is a sweeter rum more like a syrupy liquor. Has the taste of coffee within, like Kahlua, possibly some chocolates notes as well. Not bad neat, but may be good with some mixers as well. It’s easy to drink.
Yes buy this, tastey. You can really taste the vanilla and flavours of this buy buy buy
De couleur ambré, ce rum aux arômes de chocolat, vanille épicés et surtout orange.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Many flavours from chocolate to vanilla to citrus to caramel. very soft and long in the finish despite 37% vol. At room temperature I like it the most! I didn't know the 5.year-old before, so I don't mind that this one tastes completely different.
