While a clear mixing rum, that doesn't mean it's bad, at all. While I usually enjoy sipping-quality rums, they can be often very thick, viscous - heavy and bold - and that's not for everybody. But, sometimes I want to drink a good mixed cocktail, like in the summer, so this one recently caught my eye and because it is a local product, I happily gave it a try - nice, light mouthfeel, but lively and appealing for a cocktail, so when mixed with 5-Alive, 7-up and ice, it's a very very good way to drink Gold rum! I enjoyed it, and so would most anyone.
J.D. Shore rum is produced by the Halifax Distilling Co their Gold rum is aged for approximately 18 months. The rum is very light in colour and “flowery” to the taste. A unique rum that can be enjoys neat but that lacks maturity and complexity. Nevertheless this is enjoyable nat but I venture to guess it would mostly be used as a mixer.

A straightforward, simple gold rum, not overly complex but not offensive either. A good rum for mixes and other cocktails that don’t require a heavy rum presence. When taken neat, has a few characteristics that remind me of a nice reposado tequila.
