Barbados rum smell: strong caramel, vanilla, subliminal dried fruit.
Flavor: caramel, burned suggar, dryed fruits, pronounced spiciness, not harsh, not too sweet, very slight bitterness.
It is very well balanced, a better Botucal Reserva Exclusiva.
For 100 € I would expect something special. Because of the price I give this rum 8.
In another price range I would give 9 to 10.
Sweetness: 2.5 / 5
Spice: 2.5 / 5
Fruits: 3.5 / 5
German: Barbados Rum Geruch: starke Vanille, Karamell, unterschwellige Trockenfrüchte.
This one is not a sugar bomb, but still rather a sweet rum. Very woody with notes of sherry, chocolate, dark fruits and spices. Good one.
What a way to round off Christmas Day, sipping this outstanding, smooth, TASTY, rum.
I am a Diplomatico fan, and surely was not disapointed. Great, smooth and little sweet.
Had at rum tasting in barcelona - good sipper, sherry added something different but not raving about this one...
Had a chance to sample this rum recently and would definitely put it in my top 3. This rum has a lot going for it; super smooth, but not sacrificing in flavor. I got just the right amount of sweetness on the front end with a little bit of spice on the back. Definitely picked up dark chocolate and caramel notes with complimentary flavors from the bourbon oak and sherry barrels (both dry and sweet), and a little bit of spice on the finish.
It’s an oxymoron, but this rum is complex yet incredibly well balanced. There are a lot of flavors jumping out, but they all work together so well. If you’re a hardcore rum drinker and want the sweetness then you’ll get a taste of it, but you’re likely going to pick up a lot more flavor. If you aren’t a rum drinker then this one might change your mind. I could drink this one anytime, anywhere. Excellent rum! If you find a bottle of it, buy it!
Yes, this is a good rum with nice flavours and character. Sweet balance, dark chocolate and sherry coming to mind.
Another great great rum by Diplomatico! This rum is so good. Can't taste any failure in this one.
Loved this in the bottle, in the glass, in the nose, in the mouth, in the memory.....
Aroma is rich and full sherry fruit. Same taste follows with wood and dark chocolate at the back. Quite pronounced flavors. I have noticed a lot of unobtainable Venezuela rums showing up in US. Got this and Carupano Solera Centenaria within last month as a stocked item. Anyway I personally like it less than Zafra Master 30 or 21 but it worth keeping around. Different strokes for different folks. It goes into my nightcap rotation. Ohh and nice bottle and paid $80 US.
Full bodied rum with significant sherry fruitness and excellent burn followed by dark chocolate.
We drank it with my friends after we have achieved the northest point in the Europe. Touch of raisins in the aroma. Well balanced flavour, in the beginning sweet cherry taste, figs in the middle, then it last till very long decent tail.
Skvělý rum v této cenové kategorii (cca 90 € ). Rum zrajících v sudech od vína, hodně lze cítit jak na korku tak v chuti jemnou a lehkou višňovou melodii.
This rum is spectacular and well worth whatever price listed. Great aroma, sweet (but not too sweet), very easy to drink, good balance.
N- Interesting pickled ginger but lead to sticky sweet syrupy dead end; middle layer is nice with spicy zest, chocolate clotted cream and tinned fruits. Oozing molasses with floral honey, but rather superficial and lack depth. (83/18)
P- Thin with weak texture. Sweet cola candy sunk into the semi creamy lacto. Lack the quality and notable character as single vintage. (79/16)
F- Short-medium, some waxy fruit to pleased, light with drift of oak. (79/16)
Weighted Rate- 66pt. What have you done in the barrel for the past 12 years?

Sehr leckerer Rum. Habe mir gleich zwei Flaschen hingelegt. Eine zum trinken und eine zum Sammeln.
This rum is in my top-5 of rums. Coming from the Diplomatico Reseva Especial, this tastes totally different (for better). Not too sweet, with a slight dry/woody taste, and strong. In nose, the caramel-like flavor stands out; the alcohol gives an idea of being a strong rum but it is actually smooth and has almost no burn.
Really a great investment and I hope I can get a second bottle of this before they run out (now I can only see the 2005 in stock).
This is my first vintage rum from Diplomatico. I just had to try it. The first 12 years were aged in bourbon casks and single malt scotch casks. The final year married the blends and aged them in sherry casks. I can only tolerate 1-3 months of sherry cask aging. The fine print on the side of the gift box required a magnifying glass to read once I brought it home. Had I seen this in the store, I would have never bought it. For half the price of this $80 rum, most of you would be just as happy with a bottle of Brugal 1888, which is what this reminds me of. It is a good thing that I did not rate this one higher, because when these are gone, they are gone for good. This is not a bad rum, but for this price, I would expect a rating of 8 or higher.
Update July 9, 2019: No matter how I try to like this overly sherried rum, I just cannot like it. On the rocks is the best, but even when I add more likable rums to that mix, the excessive sherry aging of this rum dominates. I have no other choice except to lower my initial 7 rating down to a 5, which means that I will never buy this one again, even if available. At least I wound up with a very nice bottle for storing Mai Tais and other non-carbonated tropical drinks. Out of desperation, I added equal parts of premium coconut water (with pulp), and drank that mixture without any ice since it was all stored in the fridge. At least that made it drinkable.
I have been steered in the wrong direction by many of these rave reviews, but I should have brought my reading glasses to read the fine print on the side of the gift box. Three months maximum sherry cask aging for this rum drinker!
It’s up there with the 2000. A simply perfect rum. On the nose this is simply the best rum there is, and it follows through.
It is strong, has heavy body and cognac like taste. Nice sipper.
The 2002 of this rum’s was one of the best things to have ever hit my lips. Brown augar, banana, coffee and chocolate. When I first opened this bottle it was straight alcohol to the face. That being said, a couple of weeks after being opened it has turned in to a wonderful rum
Nice combination of everything makes from every drop nice event.
Enjoyed a bottle of Diplomatico Single Vintage 2004 with my friend during a vacation. Very nice and high end bottle and label design. Reddish color. Toffee, light oak, plenty of raisins and sherry are clearly identifiable to the nose and palate. Not as smooth as Single VTG 2002, but spectacular compared to a lot of other rums.
