Three Sheets Cask Strength rum, a version of their Barrel-Aged Rum that spends additional time aging in new charred (#3) American white oak barrels before it’s bottled from single barrels at cask strength (which is around 128 proof).

Purchased this rum as it is produced by local distillery here in San Diego, so I thought I'd give it a try. Admittedly I did not see the strength of the rum when I purchased it. I usually drink my rum neat and poured myself a glass. Wow, alcohol burn and no flavor getting through, just the alcohol. Added some ice to tone it down and it obviously helped, but still not tasting a rum with much character for sipping. I will give it another try on another night, but not seeing anything promising here..
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This rum totally surprised me. I'm not a huge fan of the Three Sheets Barrel Aged rum, so I guessed this was nothing more than a stronger version of that, but I was wrong.
I tried this against the Three Sheets Barrel Aged Rum, along with other highly rated 'cask strength' rums, like the Foursquare Criterion, the Mount Gay XO Cask Strength Limited Edition, and the Foursquare 2004 11-Year Bourbon Cask Strength. To me this topped all of those.
This has a beautiful flavor, which smells and tastes of caramel, molasses, oak, vanilla, and spice. Really good straight at 63.5% abv; I didn't bother adding water or ice.
If you're not afraid to sip a 63.5% rum, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Even if you are, this is still damn good with a splash of water.
