This rum is quite dry; I prefer a touch of sweetness in my rums.
Vegetal sugarcane, oak, vanilla, and pepper. Not bad, but not a great rum either, imho. Not worth the price to me of $69.99 (K&L Wines 2015).
It's about what I figured from Neisson, it's slightly smoother.
For a Martinique vieux agricole, it’s not so bad - surely a costly addition to any US collection, and questionably suitable as such for that alone. But it’s a smooth talker with just a memory of its fiery past as an ardent blanc from 12 years ago. It has been hard to truly like vieux agricoles over 8 yrs, in general; for me, it’s all about that fiery youth that makes this style shine, and so much of that is lost in the adulteration of the spirit during the fût sitting period. It’s certainly a handsome bottle presentation, and a fine selection for your regular whiskey aficionado, but the mellowness just kinda loses me with the hint of sweetness presumably imparted by the charred barrel and a flabbiness associated with middling French red wines.
All said and done, this is a fine example of a vieux agricole in the upper end of the aged spectrum - not a standout, but far better than El Dorado’s equivalent expression.
Blonde ambra color.
A not very intens smell of wood, dry fruit, wine,.
This was the full-bodied sample on a French tasting I did, and I by far preferred this to the light and medium bodied samples. Much smoother and easier to enjoy as a sipper. I had to add water to the others to make them more palatable, but the Neisson stood on its own. Still not my favorite and not one I would rush back to, but it did at least leave me curious enough to try more agricoles.
Rather dry if you're not used to agricoles, but fruity with noted of vanilla and pepper. There's a sense of spicyness and citrus that is enjoyable.
The finish is longer than you're usual Rhum.
A tester !
This rum erupts from the glass with a lovely bouquet—full of sweet oak and red wine. It's the sweetest Martinique agricole I've tried to date. For me (someone who reads "this rum is sweet but not too sweet" as "this rum is definitely way too sweet"), it's *almost* too sweet, but not quite. And it's super delicious.
After breathing for 15-20 minutes, strangely, it seemed to dry out a bit. Its smooth veneer started to give way to some "harsher" character—which I thought was delightful. That's what pushed it up to 9.
Not sure it's totally worth the msrp, but it is very good, and highly recommended.
Note : 65/100
I'm a fan of this agricole but it is a super specialist when it comes to the genre. The aging really doesn't tone down the agricole-ish but accentuate it. The fresh cane comes off like fresh grass and green olives. A really interesting cocktail ingredient and a lovely if not sophisticated, early in the night sipper. But again, highly specialized.
Légèrement boisé, avec un nez assez prononcé. Bons arômes en fin de dégustation.
I'm not sure i've ever tasted a rum quite this dry and "green" tasting. Not for everybody. Decent agricole though, if you are in the mood for something dry and french.

This is a good agricole that taste like it should. It's a strong and dry rum without the extra added sugar you can find on most rum but it doesn't burn your mouth either. You don't drink syrop or pure alcool here, it's rum. On the mouth you can feel the typical warmth and flavor of the agricole's rum. It will please the one's who like this kind but maybe not the sweet rum lovers.
I am not very knowledgeable concerning agricole rums so I will offer my thoughts:
The flavor has a noticeable mild sweetness but that is quickly replaced by a marked oak flavor that is not overwhelming. There isn't a harsh burn but more of an overall warmth. It is a very good dry rum.
This rum is dry, a mix of chili, pepper and vanilla, strong and long finish
Definetly taste the french Cognac influences in this one.
A rhum agricole, this one is intense and complex. Butter + scotch. Add an ice cube and enjoy where it goes. Good heart warmer after satisfying dinner.
