Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Doftar vanilj, ek och mild sprit. Inte alls söt men inte heller helt torr. Lite lätt funky fruktsmak av banan och ananas.

A great rum with balanced notes of cigar and vanilla. Oak is present but well balanced. Long pleasant aftertaste that is just addictive!
Drink pure or as suggested on Mount Gay’s website with an coconut water ice cube. Perfect!

never really liked the mount gay dark, then sipped this XO recently and it's smooth and long after taste. added to collection.

lovely natural sugar, no cloying sweetness. lots of beautiful oaky spice too. this is a perfect primer rum for those working their way over from bourbon. i keep this one in regular rotation in my desk top ship decanter. mount gay has always been a favorite and this expression is absolutely lovely.

This is where my journey with aged rum began. Up to that point I was a Navy rum man as I was in the Royal Navy at the time.
A trip to the Mount Gay distillery on Barbados changed that. I experienced the blending pride shown by the chief blender to produce this aged masterpiece and then tasted it. Maybe it was the place or the time, but everytime I now sip this I am transported back to a place where real rum lives.
