Looking for a cheap white rum to practice making mojitos with, taking into consideration the shortage of Bacardi's at the shopping mall and a criminal overpricing of Captain Morgan's, I decided to take a risk and try out a relatively unknown, local brand. And oh boy, did I regret that.

The first smell after opening the bottle makes you question whether it contains a rum, a vodka or another unspecified spirit. Bluntly speaking, it reeks of booze. The first sip is like a kick in the knee. The only taste you can notice is an overwhelming presence of alcohol, despite the spirit only being 37.5% vol. Not even a hint of anything more ambitious than that. Be careful even when drinking it mixed, because pouring too much of this undercover gasoline can ruin even the best cocktail.

Overall, a lesson learned. Don't be cheap. Because at times, even if you think the cheapest spirit available will suffice, it turns out to not be quite the case.
