Deosebit..
limited edition Cognac Cask finish is very complex rum. good aftertaste, very well balanced, a lot of wood.
This rhum has matured for over 10 years with an added finish in French oak barrels that had previously contained Delamain cognac. Nose: fresh, flowery, tropical fruits, sugar cane, orange peel, some citrus. Palate: short spicy attack immediately followed by toasted oak (not too dominant), cane and fruits. You will experience the typical dryness of rhum agricole. Finish is quite long, light and fruity, gaining in sweetness over time. After some time notes of smoke rise up and (together with the sweet notes) will define the lasting taste.
Part of a double buy from JM, this cognac cask finish allows a extraordinary taste to the old JM rhum. Light color but with a clear smell from Cognac: people who visited Cognac distillery will definetly fond the same aroma. The length on the mouth is typicall from Martinique rhums. Clearly recommanded but hard to find !
Until today I did not like any agricole Rhum I tried. And I did not like the 200 EUR Sassafras because the long cognac maturation ruined it for me. Here we have an agricole with a short, less than a year, cognac finish in high quality Delamain(Grande Champagne) butts. The tables completely turned now. I love it! It is diluted to 40,5% but almost as intense as a high quality casc strength rum. It is limited to 800 bottles and the price was 50 EUR for 0,5 l. This money was well spent. I cant expect more from an agricole.
EDIT: Finished the bottle now. Im still amazed. But if there were a casc strength version of this i d rate it higher. Therefore i reconsider my rating from a 10 to a 9 +.
Amber colour with reflection. The nose is on the cinnamon, dried fruits, vanilla and cognac finish is well felt. On the palate, the woody with vanilla are present, the typical markers from JM rums are present. A final on spices, moderately long in the mouth. And always the spices! It's hot. The finish is present but discreet. Beautiful rum.

Beautiful complex rum, smooth and rich, with a lot of cognac tones, but still with agricole freshness.
