Decent Bois Bande Rum
17 Jan '16
Another rum made with the Caribbean aphrodisiac "bois bande" (from a local tree bark)... This St. Lucian rum has a decent amber colour and a novel vanilla bean in each bottle.
The rum smells of vanilla and has a vanilla taste as well, although the finish leaves you with a sweet cinnamon flavour. This rum is too harsh for me to sip, but was OK with Ginger beer. It would probably do better with cola.
Not crazy about this spiced rum

This spiced rum is more of a traditional spiced rum 35% ABV. It has less cinnamon and sweetness compared to Chairman's spiced. It was much less spiced compared to the local spiced rum known also as under the counter that you can get in St. Lucia. If you go to St. Lucia I strongly recommend seeking out some local spiced rum. This rum has some main notes of cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. Updated rating after tasting at home. Fairly smooth aged 3-4 years. I found it better than Chairman's spiced rum.
I am not crazy about spiced rum but I bought this one in St-Lucia and I was curious, mostly to see a piece of wood inside the bottle. I found this rum to be very good, and tasted what I expect from a spiced rum ; spices, and dried fruits.
The piece of "bois bandé " inside is supposed to have aphrodisiac vertues !
