Golden amber in the glass.
In the nose at the beginning very light, fruity and floral. The longer he breathes the more the scents go into the deep, burned caramel, leather, tobacco, dark wood, lava rock.
On the palate, uncompromisingly honest and without frills. The aromas of unripe fruits, caramel, vanilla and oak wood pleasantly haunt the tongue. Any sweetness is missing.
On the finish, very woody and spicy and yet very kind. The fruity and floral tones also resonate.
A Ron for connoisseurs, but think this kind of Ron could be mature for a few more years in the barrel, looking forward to a tasting of the 25 yo.

I tried the Flor de Cana 7 year not long ago and was not very impressed and my first impression of this 12 year was also not so good. But after adding ice and getting about 1/4 of the way through the bottle (not at one time) I am absolutely not disappointed. The trick was putting it on the rocks. It really mellowed and smoothed itself out after adding some ice. Not overly sweet but definite vanilla and caramel taste and with ice the harshness was cut down considerably. I have had room temperature bottom shelf vodkas that were not as harsh as this was neat. But on the rocks this rum is well balanced and the price point was also right well under $40.

I cannot recommend this rum. It's a bit boring, no complex, no evolution. I can't find the balance in the mouth and nose of a 12-year-old rum. The aftertaste of it is short and alcoholic, I was happy to finish the bottle

You can honestly find much better rums for this price.

This rum has a lot of caramel taste/smell with a smooth and sweet finish.

Very rich rum, dark tones in noise and palate. Complex but not overdone. Very good mixer for me, but also on the rox

No predominant aromas, just a well rounded rum, might feel generic at first but the balance will come through after a while

Having been recommended this by a friend maybe I was expecting too much, but this is pretty basic fare. No complexity to speak of and an underwhelming 40%, the only real plus for me is that it isn't too sweet. I'm guessing there are better rums at this end of the market and won't be buying again.

Me lo regalaron y lo tuve mucho tiempo hasta que decidí abrirlo. Exquisito ron, lo volvería a comprar, buen cuerpo, aroma y paladar.

The Flor de Caña 12 exhibits a pleasingly complex taste profile that seems to contain tiny hints of minerals. This is perhaps because of its origin; I wouldn't know. But it is a very fine rum indeed and will please most people. You should be aware, however, that it's anything but sweet so if that's what you're looking for, don't park here; drive on by. It'd certainly suit being mixed in a drier style cocktail but I don't recommend it as a sipper for this very reason. No complaints though; this was a pleasant surprise for me and I'd definitely buy it again.

Sampled at the Laka Lono Rum Club tasting on 8/29/18. This may be the sweet spot of the FdC lineup. Actually quite good. Good enough for me to keep a bottle at home.
