Excellent for the price. Good enough to sip, will enhance your drinks.

The 12 yo stays my favorite regular sipping rhum.

Smooth caramel and molasses aroma, sweetness and alcohol. Hints of smoky character. Sweetness upfront but dries through the middle and in the finish. Warming alcohol as well but not harsh or medicinal. Nice warmth and light fruity character as well as a bit of smoky character. Molasses and toffee. Nice medium body, warming and smooth. This is a nice surprise for an 8 year. According to some sources about 8 g/l of added sugar so nowhere near the 12 year. Nice rum flavor. Easy sipper and will be nice in cocktails. Good value in my book. If you don't like it bone dry or overly sweet this is a good choice. A solid 7+ in my book.

Light mahogany color. The nose is very sweet, on caramel, coffee, butterscotch. Alcohol is present, not well integrated. In the mouth, it is pastry but very flat and short. a rum to discover the world of rum

Sweet Demerara Rum. A combination, I believe, of distillates from their column and heavy pot stills. Have had it in a Kaieteur Swizzle, and it was quite good. I really admire El Dorado Distillery, so maybe I am biased..

Produced in historic wooden pot stills that impart unique and mildly fruity characteristics; this rum is complex with notes of caramel, brown butter, candied nuts, dried stone fruit and nutmeg on a warming and long finish. A good rum at a budget price

It's been a while since I've had this one but I certainly remember really enjoying it. Certainly a step up from the 5 year old. I drink all of my rum neat and had no problem disposing of a bottle of this in short order. Is this great rum? No, but it is certainly above average. Will try the 12 year old in the near future. Can't wait.

This rum is tasty. Pleasuring taste, nice warmth, beautiful amber-brown colour and delicious smell. This one almost drink itself. Not so distinctive as 12yo, but it's rather complementary to it than being it's weaker brother.
It have usual taste palette for middle-aged rums, nothing distinctive, but all well balanced and sugarcoated with some kind of delicious molasses sweetness. For this, it's one of my favourite benefit-cost rums here.
Well, isn't the rating here beautiful? I generally like this one, and rate (in it's category its well above average rum) by seven (and a 3/4). Other fella rather dislikes this one and regrets his 18 EUR purchase, all that for rating 7...

Even though this El Dorado is good enough as a sipper, I think where it really shines is as a mixer and is the primary one I always use when mixing drinks. Also, unlike some of the other ED's this one doesn't have much added sugar so if you're making Tiki drinks you don't have to worry about them becoming overly sweet. At this price point really the perfect rum!

This is a decent rum, but it's not as smooth as the El Dorado 12 (this is a bit harsher).

Smells and tastes of molasses, honey, spice, tobacco, with a light touch of oak. Pretty good, but if you want a sipping rum, I recommend paying just a bit more for the 12.
