Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

Amazing with ginger beer. Not quite as good as a Ron Solera 23 but close.
Didn't like it at first, when I was more into sweeter rums, but I'm now a convert!
Fantastic deep flavour, smooth, warming and with the distinctive Appleton smell.
Wonderful stuff, and for the price a must have on any shelf
I could give this a 10, but I'd like to leave room for some future amazing dram, not to mention the fact that I haven't tried Appleton's 21 or other specialty offerings. But the 12 is very solid, especially for folks who come from the world of whiskey. Ralfy (if you don't know who that is, you should -- see his reviews on YouTube) put down Ron Zacapa XO because it's only bottled at 40%. At first I felt he was being too knee-jerky about percentages, but over time, I've come to agree that as complex as the Zacapa is, it really doesn't please over the long haul as much as its Appleton and Mount Gay rival XO's. For people who prefer the nuances brought out by the alcohol in a drink, rum's sweetness requires that 43% level to keep it sufficiently sophisticated, IMHO. Appleton 12 has the 43% mark, and it's got plenty of natural verve and flavor to please any serious imbiber. Appleton 12 is a hat-doffer for sure. Enjoy!
while I typically like dark and spiced Rums - this one is one of my favorites of non-spiced. really intense taste - and it's great neat (that I don't drink often).
one of the proofs / examples that cap might be better than cork (although it would be more convenient to have bottle with cork while watching some Black Sails..)
This rum was one I was really excited to get my hands on and I was not disappointed. It was definitely spicier and more spiky than the other rums I've had, but I loved it. Its a challenging rum with notes of Christmas spices, not for everyone, but perfect for me.
Appleton makes two different 12 year blends that l am aware is. This one is not sold in Ontario, Canada, but a friend brought me this back from a trip. Very nice Jamaican style rum for sipping.
A bit of funk on the nose, woody, fruity, spicy on the palate, and most of all superbly balanced. Excellent value rum that can be recommended to everyone!
Absolute staple in my rum cabinet. Never go wrong with a glass of this dark beauty
This was a very smooth and flavourful rum. It was a great value compared to many of the other rums I have tasted over the past year. I appreciated the flavour without the heavy alcohol taste that accompanies many of the others I have tried. I consider this to be a "must have" for my cabinet.

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."

Makes me want to try older Appleton’s

I’ve been enjoying the Appleton’s Reserve for quite awhile and I didn’t expect this to be much different.
The 12 is MUCH better than the reserve! Now I really like to start with the 12 and then switch down to the reserve after 1 or 2. It is a seamless step down and a great way to enhance an evening.
Now I’m really keen to try some of the older more expensive Appleton’s.
