El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. Traditional tools are used in the distilling processes including three unique wooden stills. The rums rest until maturity in 45 gallon oak casks.

Definitely a nice supper. This rum starts off with a very appealing nose. Definite oakey, caramel and vanilla. The sharp aroma of alcohol is not immediately evident. It edges on a bit of sweet, with a very nice smooth mouth feel. Swirling in the gums after a few sips does bring the pleasant gum and cheek tingling/numbness. The alcohol is very sharp after the swallow
I was really looking forward to finding a bottle and trying this rum. As it turns out, the anticipation was better than the experience. I much prefer the 15yr version.
Together with the Appleton Estate 21y my priciest rum purchase thus far, but worth every penny. Very rich and complex in taste - so much to discover. A fantastic sipper for special occasions. But I must admit, I liked the Appleton 21y a little better.
Boy did I feel like I overpaid for this. Just was not a pleasant experience for the price. Ended up mixing just to finish the bottle.
I really enjoy the 21 and the entire El Dorado collection.
I‘ve been lucky to enter the world of rum (me being a whisky aficionado) via very experienced friends. I encountered this 21 y/o after a few years of tasting and developing my palet through a variety of all sorts of indies bottlings. I only want to share my experience and this is just an opinion(!), but this is utterly disappointing and I don’t understand the raving reviews. It is far to sweet to my liking, it lacks complexity and the low ABV certainly doesn’t help either.
Great rum with a honeyed taste. Long smooth and complex.
Rich and smooth with a woody influenced finish. Lots of vanilla and Demerara notes.
'spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar'
"El Dorado 21-Year rum review by The Ultimate RumGuide"
There is an extra layer of oak in the profile.
"Notes of oak and a slight spiciness also comes through. The rum is very smooth and easy drinking but complex enough to ensure you savour each sip of the drink. The finish is long lasting."

El Dorado is interesting. It smells very bland and boring in the bottle/glass, typical stuff you smell from any non-commercial rum. However drinking it straight is very unique. I would not recommend straight, it is quite the harsh sipper and I always find myself scratching my head at how some people sip somethings straight. It needs a tad of cola to tame it. But wow what a nice body. Thin entry, huge body in the middle that is super blent together to make this wonderful unique taste and a typical rum ending, silky is a way to describe it. Its a good blend of sweetness and dry. It's good but not worth the price honestly. Comparable to Mount Gay XO quality and price range. It would be more enjoyable too if their was less heat but that's okay can't win them all but it's a very good thing to sample. I picked mine up in a thing call a "connoisseurs choice" pack where it had the 12, 15 and 21 year for 10$ at the duty free. Which if you're like me and just like to buy to sample it's a very economic way to sample!
