El Dorado is interesting. It smells very bland and boring in the bottle/glass, typical stuff you smell from any non-commercial rum. However drinking it straight is very unique. I would not recommend straight, it is quite the harsh sipper and I always find myself scratching my head at how some people sip somethings straight. It needs a tad of cola to tame it. But wow what a nice body. Thin entry, huge body in the middle that is super blent together to make this wonderful unique taste and a typical rum ending, silky is a way to describe it. Its a good blend of sweetness and dry. It's good but not worth the price honestly. Comparable to Mount Gay XO quality and price range. It would be more enjoyable too if their was less heat but that's okay can't win them all but it's a very good thing to sample. I picked mine up in a thing call a "connoisseurs choice" pack where it had the 12, 15 and 21 year for 10$ at the duty free. Which if you're like me and just like to buy to sample it's a very economic way to sample!

Ver 1.0: pour the glass, drink right away. Some strange alcohol will bug you. Score 8.
Ver 2.0: let's it breath for a while, 7min for instance. All the bouquet opened. One part of oak, one of demerara sugar, 7 of dates, ecsotic fruits and 1 part of pure magic. Scored 10.

Surprisingly quite strong, dark alcoholic kick. but it starts with a nice well-balanced body. give it time to breathe.

Found on sale for $71. bottled in 2015. It takes a while sipping to tease out the complexity. Traces of fig, honey, dark sugar (without being to sweet), spice, orange. Velvet in the mouth with a rich and long lasting finish. Not sure I would have forked over $100+ when first stared tasting, but after 30 minutes tasting and feeling the aromas and tastes it has grown on me.

OK, what happened here besides a different label? The old blue label is superb! So, I purchased another one last week. It now sports a white label and in my opinion also a different rum. One that is not nearly as good as the blue label. I will not waste my money on that again. But, if I do run across another blue label bottle I will snatch it right off the shelf! I'm sticking with the 15yr old at 2 for 1 price.

If you’re ready to pay around 90€, this is one of the best choices. It’s very smooth and it tastes sweet fruit, spices, leather, some candy and vanilla.
It’s completely different from the “12” and “15” and an evening with all three is a nice experience and is appreciated by most rum lovers. Have a nice evening!

A sweet and smooth rum with lots of dried fruit and a long nice aftertaste

A lovely rich and full bodied rum to bring up my first "century" of ratings...
It has the toffee smell and chewiness of the 12 but not as sweet , which is a good thing.
Also retains the raisin taste and aroma of the 15... lovely stuff !
Leave in the glass for 10 mins as normal then sip this big fat chewy rum... add an ice cube to make it creamier.. beautiful after dinner rum.

A rich dark Demerara rum delivers an unexpectedly dry initial impression, despite the added sugars. Add an ice cube to bring out additional layer of flavors that elevate this rum. It would rate higher if not for the price point and additives. Aging a rum for 21 years is costly, but there are other other rums at lower price points that are equally as tasty.

This is a fantastic rum, some say it is backsweetend but I just don't care because it is great. Even if that is the case it is not real sweet, very flavorful with almost no burn on the finish.. The mouth is fantastic and the finish is even better. Definitely well worth being on your upper shelf. I did a blind taste with my 12, 15, and 21 and they are all very distinguishable from one another. 21 is by far a keeper!

Un rhum très cher mais il est vraiment complexe et mérite sa dégustation. Un goût puissant et corsé avec des notes de miel, de fruit de chêne et sucre brun.
