There are some additives in it I think. But not more sugar. A good first choice, when you are stepping out of the realm of fake sweetened rums.
Ok, this was one of my first bottles... I also love Colombia, so this Ron is somewhat special to me.
First of all, forget about the 12 years, this is a Solera Ron, so maybe (just maybe) a tiny little fraction of the liquid is somewhat 12 "periods" of ageing long. As most other Dictador types of Ron the notes of coffee are quite prevalent, chocolate beans, buts, molasses... lots of molasses, and, added sugar... I wouldn't be surprised if I found some coffee grains here and there in the top barrels of their stockpile, but that's just my speculation.
I like it because as opposed to other Rones in the category, this one isn't shy of alcohol and strength, it is not persistent (not at all, too sugary to last long) but at least for some moments once you sip it gives you the idea that "yes it means something".
My favourite rum, my precious, for a long time, it has this special smell and taste, that i can sense in the middle of the night. Havent found better.
Nice for those who want a strong rum. Coffe taste and nuts. Big kick of alcohol. Dark color.
smell is like a cheap rum, similar to any major rum brand such as Bacardi. Taste is much better, it's middle of the road, not great but not horrible. Rich and buttery taste. Not much alcohol burn on the aftertaste. Pretty smooth. 80+
zuerst scharf dann Wallnuss im Abgang, leicht caramelig. Nicht so süß.
Nuts, coffe, chocolate, litle bit of alcohol

Excellent Rum with beautiful aroma and smooth taste
Dark color. Nosing dominated by notes of raisins and caramel. Palate reveals strong flavors of milk chocolate combined with notes of sherry. The finish is quite sweet. Overall a typical sweet Spanish-style-rum. Rated this rum with a 5 as the sweetness is suspicious for added sugar.
Coffee and caramel aromas. Not to sweet coffee-like flavor. Not what I'm normally used to but good nonetheless.
Smooth drinking with hints of maple syrup. A bit on the sweet side but nice everyday sipping.
I am keen to try older one, this one was good but little bit sharp.
complexité entre fruits secs, agrumes et en finale chocolat...
je recommande vivement
Rum di stile spagnolo molto valido, ma deve piacere il genere, se si amano i rum britannici o agricoli non fa per voi
It's very pleasant rum with strong coffee and chocolate aromas. It is not very smooth, and you can feel its strength. Great for the beginners for discovering different aromas in rum.
This rum is good, nice nose, mouth and finish. Drank it neet, i would recommend you ket it breathe a bit. Manly rum..
not sweet, but nice smell and good taste above average. Catching eyes bottle and I would recommend it to most of average Rum lovers
Nice relatively light pour.
Pleasant nose, with no harshness or alcohol.
Mouth feel is good.
My initial reaction was "too much of an alcohol burn\taste", however this was completely gone on subsequent sips.
Chocolate and coffee predominate.
There is a bit of an alcohol burn, however this is not necessarily a bad thing, and the more subtle tastes begin to develop as this burn dissipates.
The after taste is pleasant and lingers.
My initial reaction to Dictador 12 had not been good so this bottle has sat on the shelf for quite a while. I decided to retry it, simply to be able to write this review. I think the difference was letting the rum sit in the glass for quite a while, about 20 minutes, prior to drinking it.
Dictator 12 has a beautiful color, the aroma is nice but nothing special. The legs are great, long and thick. Now for the two big factors: The taste is good but not great, smooth and not too much burn. The taste does last in your mouth. Bottom line is that this is a pretty good rum but the price is too much. $40 a bottle. You can get a rum just as good for under $30.
Taste 7/10. Strong alcohol taste, little sweetness, little wood and chocolate which saves everything in taste. Only nice complexity in taste is the chocolate. Buy better El Dorado 12 or Diplomatico Reserve.
Makes a great rum espresso martini. As a sipper the overpowering coffee notes on the nose and palate make this very one dimensional.
Oh no. Shamelessly flavoured. Butterscotch? Plums? Im guessing some kind of fruit. At least its not sweet.
Not estery and I can’t find oak despite the rum being quite dark
Its a good semi-liquor. I can see it being a great cocktail modifier but it shouldn’t be labeled as rum.
If I had a choice I would leave the rating blank.
