This is good introduction to Dictador label. aroma is nuts and chocolate. Taste just smooth. 20 and XO are much deeper, but this one is really good as for that price, so good deal.
This rum is the one I always keep a bottle of in my cocktail cabinet. It has a rich and full taste with an edge of sweetness, but I wouldn't call it a sweet rum really. For me this is rather a tasting rum than a drinking rum. It has a rich dark texture with strong oak and walnut taste besides vanilla. I wouldn't mix it with anything. It's smooth and warm tasting. It's scent is really strong and lasting, it will stay in your glass even hours after drinking it. The full flavour can be experienced with proper breathing when drinking as some of the complexity only unfolds in the nose. A great rum for the price - definitely recommended.
Quite hard to give a real review as I bought this, XO Insolent & XO Perpetual at the same time. For the money it’s a very nice sipper.
Pleasant on nose. Rich, fruity, smooth, a bit oaky, pretty complex taste. Definitely notes of coffee. Little alcohol burn which doesn't bother. Sweetness balanced well with dryness. Lonnnng delicious aftertaste.
Long life Dictador! )
The rum has notes of smoke, oak, vanilla, spice, and rubber. It's a little dry for a rum, in my opinion, it also feels a little harsh to me.
I like coffee. Concetrated coffee, italian kind of ristretto, especially after a good meal, on a late evening. Il owe and like a gin called Qahwa, which obviously mix up orange and coffee. That was my first option in case no coffee was available.
This rum is a real alternative to both other options. It tastes caramel, dark chocolate and coffee, which is my profile. So, if you're like me, do not hesitate ! Try the Insolent version as well (cfr. review)
Rhum très empreint de caramel et surtout réglisse. Produit de bonne facture.
Très esthétique dans sa bouteille noire !
I enjoyed some sips of this rum. The 20 year and the XO are much better. A bit harsh, but very nice flavor. I wouldn’t turn it down.
retirement gift.Loved the bottle. deep toffee flavours smooth and ok, I'll have another one.
Smell: Burned suggar, spices (some pepper), vanilla, warm alcohol
Taste: Paper, sweetness, vanilla, spices, cookies, sunflower seeds, bitterness
Surprisingly tasty rum, acceptably sweet but still without added sugar. Nice but maybe strong cofee aroma. Better to leave poured in a glass before sipping.
Notes of walnut, oak on the nose. Caramel-y dlavor but not overly sweet. I do prefer the 20yr version but this is also a nice smooth Colombian rum.
A nice tasting sweet rum with a coffee aftertaste. Not a rum I would drink on a regularly basis, but more a rum for after dinner or on a cold night. I like this 12 year old rum better, much subtle than the 20 year old dictator.
If you do like liquorice indeed you should taste this one. I do not like it very much in rum, it covers a lot. Smell was more promising, no sweet in the mouth, a surprisingly short finish, no burn at all.
I tried Dictador 12 before 20 and I really love it. Beautiful taste, wonderful aroma and good price. Very good balance
Typischer Dictador Geschmack und Geruch aleerdings noch nicht ganz so mild wie seine Grossen Brüder.
There is sooo much wrong with this rum omg! This is one of the worst rums I've ever tasted! Completely different than the older brother of 20 years. Not even comparable!
This one is very good when you want to start to find your way to the drier rums. It is smooth with little bit of alcohol burn. In taste hints of vanilla, butter, coffe and nuts. End is relatively long with hint of oak.
Ok so strong taste of coffee but sweet in the end.
A very strange tasting rum with poor balance. Lots of coffe in the taste, works for me only as a drink rum.
This rum literally tastes like aunt jemima syrup mixed with harsh vodka. Zero complexity, the only saving grace is the sweetness and some smoothness
Quite strong, flat but likable. The taste brings the atmosphere of Christmas.
Not much on the nose. Chocolate, alcohol, tobacco and coffee on the tongue. It has a bit of a bite, but I'd call it quite harsh. There's a bitter sweetness to it...but the bitterness is stronger than the sweetness. Ok, but I won't be buying a bottle. For a bitter sweet rum, La Hechicera has way more depth.
I tried the slightly cheaper 12 after enjoying the Dictador 20. Sadly, the downgrade is noticeable on the taste front. Not a bad rum by any means, but not as enjoyable neat.
