Strong but well balanced. Falls into same category as O.V. D. with distinct molasses overtones and a warming after taste.
Its got to be one of the most unique unchanged labels on any rum bottle
Had to wait to finish the Jungle Bird list, but it was pretty good.
Not a very strong aroma at all, very dark color which is nice, flavor is very light but has a burn and not so nice aftertaste. Might be a better mixer than a sipping rum.
This rum was not bad, but had a very weird aftertaste. I would mix this rum, not so great to sip.
40% ABV (there is a 45% version in the US). Nice warm nose. Lots of caramel and vanilla. Tastes exactly how you might expect. Rich, with that chocolate chip cookie dough character. Slightly bitter finish (molasses?). Easy drinking. Would make for a great mixer.
Looking forward to trying the 45%...
7-, 6+
Sampled this rum during a tasting seminar at Cardiff Rum Festival.
It's a dark rum from Guyana. The bottle still bears the original label from its launch back in the 1930s! It's a good mixer for its price and I almost certainly would not have come across this had it not been for the seminar I attended.
Skipper rum has a really nice deep dark red colour, and a pleasantly sweet (with a little alcohol) smell. This rum starts with a heavy molasses taste, followed by a sweet treacle flavour.
The nose is great, the aftertaste is really nice, but the taste itself is a bit bland.
On the nose you have - lovely burnt brown sugar, molasses, wood, madeira wine
On taste - not much compared to many rums, but molasses and a spirit kick, certainly, mainly a touch of sherry
On the aftertaste - a lot more comes through and a certain woodiness, leather, fruitiness and a sweet tang
Un rom straight... Pur, adevărat. Ușor after taste, probabil foarte bun în mix-uri dar eu îl prefer "on the rocks" :)
Quite a bit of sweetness.
"It’s sweet and spicy and you get a taste of raisin in the mix."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A dark coloured rum that has a slightly mahogany tint. There is a slightly sweet scent of sugar on the nose.
The taste is rather bland, a faint hint of sweetness, but otherwise it was more reminiscent of a black coloured vodka rather than a rum. As a sipper it is simply too young, but it is the lack of flavour that really hurts this one. When mixed with cola the taste is almost non existent, for those who don't like the taste of rum.
This reminds me of Hopkins Black Rum, but it's available at £14, compared to £21 I paid for this. At that price I wouldn't get this again.
