Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
This rum is great for mixing. It has a good price point and doesn't stand out in a tiki drink.
This lightly aged rum has a decent amber colour accompanied by hints of smoke and sweet smells. Straight up it's harsh and lacks flavour other than a little sweetness, however it makes a decent rum/cola. For the price, its one of the best mixing rums on the market and belongs in everyone's bar.
I will always have a bottle on hand for everyone that likes mixed rum drinks. A very good value. Rather light in color and taste but I would not sip it anyhow. Mixed with most any fruit or cola and it stands out without overpowering. If I compare it with others used only for mixing it would be a 9.
This rum has been quite tasty in mixed cocktails or the simple Rum and Coke. It balances quite well with these. However I do not like this one as a sipping rum be it neat or on the rocks. It is quite inexpensive as for my area its less than $17 for a 750ml bottle.
This rum's best attribute is the price. Mixes well enough and widely available. Not for sipping though.
This rum is just amazing for what it is,
For once its very cheap I think its like 10$ a fifth here, compared to morgan which is 17-18$.
Is it an AMAZING RUM with SUPER complexity, no.
But its an AMAZING staple rum. It sits well in ALL mixed drinks, its not over powering in its flavor, however it stands out and is very palatable. Oaky flavor with a good bit of vanilla. If you are someone who likes simple and good rums this is a must and probably your only.
Notes (too long did not read)
-Simple (can be a minus or plus)
-Vanilla Oakish Flavour
this is a nice rum low cost great in mixes good for summer party's.
I have since moved onto better rums such as Doorly's 5 yr ($20 for a 1.75 ltr) for such purposes but unless you are in a state where Total Wine has liquor you are out of luck.
I found this fairly neutral flavour wise and somewhat insipid. Was definitely not to my taste on the rocks and ultimately mixed with something to mask the flavour.
Mixing rum only. Cruzan Gold and I did not get along. Bought it on a whim a while ago to challenge my standard Bacardi gold rum for mixing but was very disappointed.
When it first met my taste buds, I thought things would really work out between us, a light but teasing complex flavor working well with the Cola that was different to the Bacardi. The problems started once the rum started settling, this very cheap bottom shelf flavor invaded the party destroying all of the initial hope, that taste never left after that. Couldn't drink the rest of the bottle as a result.
Revised after trying more rums: Not a sipper but among my favorite mixers becuase it's flavorful and versatile for a reasonable price. Great in a rum Collins, with cola, fruit flavored sparking water (lemon/lime is best) or added to egg nog. My favorite is with tonic and a lime wedge.
Excellent for Rum and Diet Cokes or any other easy mixer. Great Rum for the price. I prefer it to Bacardi.
Great product for the price. A good value, much better than Bacardi (except for their Anejo). A 1.75 here is regularly available for $18.49, hard to beat that for mixing.
A good rum for mixing. Not alot of flavors upfront, but still good. Price wise, cheaper than Mount Gay or Appleton reserve so its a really good value. Great for parties and open bars.
Excellent rum with coke or another mix, a bit harsh to drink straight or on the rocks
I like the Caribbean influences of this rum, as a mixer and over ice. I prefer it with tonic and lime, I am not into the cola thing. Once in a while I'll do a island style punch with sweet, sour and all important bitters which brings out the island essence. If you add just a touch of Black Strap (a few drops) it approaches an Anniversario's richness.
Easy to drink...Sip or with Diet Cola....
I like the Cruzan family of rums. I keep a 1.75 of this one for company because everyone seems to enjoy it in a mixer.
Good mixer. Not quite a good sipper.
I was pleasantly suprised by this rum.
Low sweet level, good vanilla taste and caramel. I have the feeling they perfectly know how to deal with their alcohol level for this kind of rum.
This was a very sweet rum (I've heard that a lot of makers add sugar back into the rum and since it is made from sugar, they don't have to declare it) but after 48 hours I noticed a lot of white floating pea sized things in my bottle.... not sure what to make of it. I've read it is everything from the sugars crystallizing to mold.
