Angostura 1919 8-Year rum

Angostura 1919 8-Year

Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV

Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.

The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

The nose was fine. Free from ethanol Nice clear caramel tone to it.
The taste has a whole lot of alcohol in it.. But there is rum..
The finish is packed with alcohol but it fades out and leaves you with loads of tones..

However much I try other rums for an everyday sipper, I always seem to come back to this one. It's not subtle, too much oak, too obvious, but that is what I really like. It doesn't try and be anything that it isn't and as such, I am a great fan. My perfect everyday sipper.

One thing does annoy me though, is often the bottles seem to be underfilled. Or maybe they are putting 70cl in a 75cl bottle. Whatever, when the bottle comes with the level mid to top shoulder, it doesn't look good.

Angostura rums have a nice flavor profile but I just wish they didn´t add sugar to them. This one has 13g/L so not the worst but it would been better without any.

But seems to have a doctored taste, perhaps a little too sweet and vanilla but not unpleasantly so.

Nutty, light herbaceous, with subtle hits of vanilla I want to say. I did make a Rumrita with this and it was really quit good. I wouldn't buy this again, but that's not to say it couldn't find a place in your liquor cabinet.

Did not enjoy whatsoever, simply disappointing and would never buy again

I'm relatively new to the world of exploring rums for more than just mixing and this was my first foray into this world. I truly enjoyed the vanilla forward aroma this bottle exudes from the moment you open it. It has a very smooth caramelly flavor that is incredibly easy to sip, either neat or over an ice cube.

Little aroma, hint of dried fruit maybe. Warming taste, dried fruit again, minimal alcohol burn, lasting warm aftertaste

too simple for sipping, but very nice in drinks, perfect for rum&cola
