I typically like particularly sweet sippers, and this one does not go down the added sugars route, so I figured I wouldn't care much for it. It does not have the sweet inviting smell that some of its competitors have, even after letting it breathe a bit, but it's great stuff. Just honest, straightforward rum, slight burn in the throat and a pleasant dryness afterwards.
Rum bom , suave e macio. Um certo fundo de interpretação mas ok. Existem melhores na sua média de preco
I have a bit of a soft spot for Botran, as this was the first rum that really hooked me up to tasting. It is underrated, vis a vis Zacapa, but still a very fine Guatemalan product. I thoroughly recommend it for drinking neat, with nice desserts and fruits.
One of the poorest ron i tested, missing flavour, depleasant afterthaste on the tongue like the botran 18. Maybe something wrong with my palate. Definitely not for me.
This would be a good intro into sipping rums. Not too complex with an initial sweetness that quickly dissipated. Not fantastic but drinkable for a real rum guy.
Good rum to have a sip............................
Happy New Year’s Eve Rum: Botron 15 from Guatemala. This is the second Botron on my list, the 18, according to my notes came in at a 9/10. So this has something to rise up to. It’s a blend of 5 and 15 year old Rums. Cheating if you ask me. Let’s get too it…
In the glass it’s the right colour. A dark, rich copper. After a swish in the glass, the nose is light, not Rum-like however. It’s heavy in alcohol and there are few key notes in there. I get a bit of apricot and hint of coconut. Perhaps it’s more 5 year than 15.
The first taste on the pallet is rewarding, starts off sweet for a while, then slowly becomes peppery after a bit. I wouldn’t call it a burn at all. New Rum drinkers might be surprised at the heat. I few sips in the first flavour presence is caramel, followed by oakiness and a hint of grassiness. There is a smidge of vanilla, but overall the taste is not complex, kind of mono-dimensional. The late sips still carry the early sweetness in the sip I noticed on the first sips.
The long finish is of old orange and dances on the dry side. This one could be a sipper or a mix with fruit juices. Not as good at the 18 but fair. 7/10. Number 369 of my 500 Rum goal!
For the price it's a decent rhum, easy to drink. Sweet but a bit too much of alcohol feeling
Color ambra carico, limpido, abbastanza viscoso.
Al naso ha prevalentemente note di caramello, orzo matato, miele, vaniglia, poco profondo.
In bocca è abbastanza morbido, sapori di legno, con una leggera tostatura, finale quasi amaro.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Well balanced, not so sweet, decent burn. Still worse than botran reserva.
