I'm always excited to try $100+ rums, and I was very eager to taste this one (~$140). But I wasn't all that impressed.
The Novo Fogo rums in general are just way to dry for my liking, with little to no spice or other flavors to make them interesting. This is smoother than their regular barrel aged rum (2 year), and was a little better. Nine years isn't terribly old, so I'm not sure why the high price point.
Smells and tastes of cachaça, bourbon (too much in my opinion), sugarcane, and oak. Reasonably smooth, but not enough 'rum' taste for my liking. If you're into bourbon aged rums, you might like this more than I did. My score does not factor in the price.
