After reading the reviews on here I thought oh no. Firstly I tried with coke and it's very nice, smooth. Now I try neat with ice. It's ok not as smooth as some but definitely drinkable. With ginger ale it's very good.

This is not one I can sip, but it is great in cocktails. Nice vanilla flavor in cola or root beer. And it's cheap.

Probably best as a mixer, but it’s smooth enough to sip, and a great value in that regard. Very strong on the vanilla if you like that.

Decent spiced rum. Not going to win any contests, but a decent bottle for mixing, and great at the price. I bought one bottle, and will happily drink it all, but probably won't replace it. No complaints, just not anything special, and for what it is (a cheap spiced rum), I prefer Captain.

Great for mixing with cola. Smoother than captain, a little sweeter too.

...or Goslings or any other $30+/fifth bottle of rum. But I don't think it's nearly as bad as some of the reviews I've read. I almost didn't buy it purely on the number of negative reviews. But then I realized many of the complaints were based on it having too much bite.

Just like anything I drink straight, I put a splash of water in it to knock down the alcohol. Doesn't matter if it's a $75 bottle of single malt scotch, or a $16 bottle of rum. Since this is higher alcohol content at 92 proof, I just put a little bigger splash in it. Once you knock down the alcohol content a bit, it's actually very smooth, mildly spicy, and has a strong vanilla overtone. No bad aftertaste. Certainly for $16 a bottle plus tax, it's a great value.

As a side note, I had a similar experience with Costco's blended scotch (not the 12 year stuff... that is quite good... I'm talking about the cheaper one). The first time I tried it, it was so harsh I almost returned it. But when I upped the water splash a bit, it took the bite away and left me with something inexpensive and pleasant to drink.

If it's true rum makes life more bearable... this rum makes life Divine.
Absolutely superior rum! I can not rate this spiced rum high enough! However I'm serious, unless you first taste it in a blind taste test... You won't give it an honest chance. Yet if you did encounter this rum, in a truly blind taste test, you'd definitely rate it the best spiced rum you've ever had! The price is so incredibly low, it can confuse your senses. Which makes available this top grade rum for anytime and all the time. When I've actually run blind taste test samplings, no matter what fine and top shelf rum labels it's put up against, unanimously it's chosen everytime as the winner. Yet once people find out it's a Costco generic label, they try to retract their previously honest vote. Don't be fooled by your snobby ego... There's just no competition.
Perfect for sipping straight and mixes into endless concoctions. This is my stand by in every mixed drink recipe, even subbed for any other hard alcohol in every recipe. Strong vanilla, perfectly subtle spice and a balanced sweetness, make this the most delicious and superior rum.
This generic label rum is the only reason I shop at Costco. I've had a full blown tantrum in store when they were out of stock. Other patrons were telling me there's Trader Joe's and Bev Mo nearby that definitely stock rum. To which I replied mid rant, I had plenty of rum stocked in my liquor cabinet... But I none compared and I needed my Kirkland spiced rum! Which caused great confusion in those trying to calm me down, who'd mistook a die hard enthusiast as an impatient alcoholic.
Yet it's true, no matter what other rums are available, I must have this one instead! Nothing compares even at any price. And kudos for the best quality rum also being the lowest cost of anything taking up valuable space in my liquor cabinet.
Occasionally it goes on sale... And then I really stock up. I've served this to all my guests for years on end, enough that I've almost saved up enough bottles to one day create a mud room out of. They'd make for beautiful glass inlaid walls, which I'll someday build myself.

I just can't rate this rum high enough!

Tastes like a super cheap rum..It smells like cough syrup and I'm not sure how people are giving it anything north of 2 on this scale...Its inexpensive for a good reason.

I’m curious how they call this spiced rum. I’m usually pretty positive on this site with my ratings, but this was just bad. It made Captain taste good(strictly comparatively speaking). All I got was bubblegum. Not even any spice. Imagine finding an off-brand candle that was intended to be “bubblegum” scented and that’s what the aroma smelled like. And then it tastes exactly the same, so it’s got that going for it. I couldn’t even finish the little pour I did of it and didn’t want to ruin a can of coke so I just poured it all into my 3 liter barrel and I’ll see if some actual time on oak can help it…..but I’m not holding out any hope.
