I just love this rum. It has a very strong flavour base and is not for the faint hearted.
It pours almost brown in colour. Aroma is full of spices, pungent and pleasant. Flavour is a mix of cinder toffee, spices and chilli. Great on its own or mixed with cola and ginger beer, this is one of the best spiced rums out there today.
Was bought this as a Christmas present and I wasn’t too keen at first taste but the further I get through the bottle the more it grows on me, now half way through the bottle and I’d certainly buy this again. Stronger to the taste (not %) than some of my other normal rums but still goes down smooth, a very strong clove taste throughout with a smokeyness to it.
Has a unique spicyness to it that hits the spot. Totally recommend
A beautiful rum for sipping or more
One of my favourites so far and got a bottle at a good price and its made in Scotland what more can I say .buy it and try it
Fabulous taste and full bodied. Packs a punch and delivers a long lasting taste.
I mix this with ginger beer and a dash of lime. I enjoy both the colour and the flavour, a bit of punch in the spice.
what a surprise this was. Was recommended it as “something special that’ll surprise you”. Surprised I was. As noted below, the rum is quite smooth, even though you’d expect otherwise from the aroma. But the spice. Chilli, peppery, gives you a warm inside feel. very peculiar and great for it
At first I wasn't too sure what to make of Dark matter. At first I felt it had too much going on but after a while I have really grown fond of it.
The spicing is authentic and smells very real not at all artificial.
"The rum is very Spicy. Despite the added sugar it isn’t a cloying drink when served neat. The finish is slightly bitter and the throat is left with a black pepper burn rather than an alcohol burn. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I tried this at the recent Manchester rum festival and have since been and bought a bottle. It has some combination of herbs and spices that reminds me of Kinnie, which is a bitter orange Maltese drink - a bit like a soft drink version of Pimms, if you can imagine such a thing. I have made a mental note to try this with some Kinnie when I can get my hands on some. So far I have tried it with cola, and neat. The effect it has is like no other drink I have ever had, I'm sure it has some sort of magic 'relaxing' herb in there! Anyway, it's our new favourite bedtime tipple. I think it's amazing.
