This rum combines depth and complexity, funkiness, with the smooth drink-ability of very old rums. So smooth, in fact, that even as a 151 this is a fine rum to drink straight up, but it also shines in simple mixed drinks, where it can bring its weight to the party; such as a Hemingway Daiquiri. As with all the lost spirits I've tried this rum cranks its flavor profile to 11. Also the bottle and label are pure art. If the lost spirits offerings are reflective of the liquor industries future, with the THEA One aging reactor, then I can't wait!

This one was a surprise to me. Lots of caramel and vanilla. The 151 heat is tolerable. I actually enjoy it neat.

See my notes on Lost Spirits Navy Style 61%.

Very creamy, vanilla nose. Buttery chocolate chip cookie dough.

With time: flooring (damn you, autocorrect!) with some off-putting alcohol. Caramel apple, which is actually quite fun. Drinkable, then less drinkable, then more. This is a chimera! (o "quimera" en Cuba...)

With drops of water: more floral and briny? (In a good way)

As with the others, a fun rum that benefits from oxidation, and a little more from water. This would probably make a great addition to one's cocktail shelf (if it were still available).

At 151 proof, you can imagine that this will put fire in your belly...and it does. Problem is, it's not particularly tasty when compared to, say, Hamilton 151 or other high-proof Lost Spirits rums. It's certainly okay in Tiki cocktails, but it doesn't add much in the flavor department. I prefer it straight with one ice cube, but even then there isn't enough going on here to keep me interested for long.
