The one I had wasn't exactly like the image here. The label wasn't silver but darker, but it said exactly the same. Anyways: it was really smoky and I would say because of that smokiness it was almost difficult to distinguish it from a Scottish Whisky. Almost. Of course you can always taste rum. It was good but unexpected whiskyly.

The original Distiller No 3 (D3) was a cult favourite amongst Bundy drinkers/collectors.

For some reason they stopped making this, and then brought out a special limited Release in 2013 for their 125th anniversary celebrations.

If you ever get a chance to try this, you want the original D3, and not the limited Release D3. They are both very different, with the original being sensational. The new one...not so much.

Lovely golden coloured rum. Not as harsh as the other rums in the Bundy stable due to this being distilled twice, and filtered three times. Very smooth rum, but lacks the complexity of other world renouned rums.

The old D3 rums command high prices on the secondary/private markets. Especially the early D3 merchandise.

Now if Bundaberg's staple offering was this Rum- then they branched off this, you'd have a respectable (maybe even enviable) range of products.

Unfortunately few of their other products live up to this model. Has a characteristically Australian flavour- minus the elements of unrefined harshness. It is unfortunate that the process used to make this made way for another product (Bundaberg Red).

Mixxable, sippable, and very enjoyable in a reasonable price range.
