Me and my buddy picked this up for a night of boozing. We were extremely let down, wasn’t even good with a mixer.
I'll start by saying this, the Calico Jack Silver Rum is only $8.99/liter around here. There isn't many reviews out there however, there's many that really love the Calico Jack Spiced Rum. For the price, It was sure not going to be a heavy roll of the dice.
Ok, the initial opening of the bottle gave me an immediate and surprising bouquet of sweet butter, vanilla, plantain, walnut shell and grassy/vegetation notes similar to a blanco tequila. My eyes certainly popped open with delight. In the glass the nose opened up and the vegetal notes rolled off quite a bit and gave way to a little pepper and a slight dry white grape.
In the mouth, the feel is light and slightly watery but clean. I initially get sweet butter, vanilla and nuttiness. I would say the sweetness is just about right. The finish is rather quick with a smooth alcohol bite and slight grassiness, plantain and pepper. I found really no citrus or other tropical fruit notes. This isn't the most flavorful or complex light rum but it is really smooth and crisp. I could possibly sip in this with a little mint leaf, lime wedge or other flavorful garnish. It also makes great cocktails. It stands up but doesn't over power the other ingredients and really lets their freshness shine. Really, really. Really surprised. Good stuff. Not complex but certainly smooth, crisp and cheap. I give it a 6 for flavor + 1 for great value. Excellent bar stocker for $8.99/liter & $14.99/1.75 liter. Give it a shot.
Been Using this rum for years. Mixes well with everything. My favorite is Calico Jack silver and "real, home made" Lemonade in the summer time. Refreshing and fun!

Probably one of the worst runs I’ve had. Go with the original or any of the others
