Ikke den bedste i skabet. Men okay. Er lidt stærk i smagen.

Very dry, not very sweet and heavy alcohol taste. Not something I'd seek to purchase again. Good enough to finish the bottle, but not eagerly.

Brugal/Dominican Republic so I expected sweet and was pleasantly surprised when I got something else entirely. Dry, smooth, with delicious barrel aged flavors. I've tasted the bourbon drinkers in my life on this one and have consistently gotten favorable reviews. Wish they'd have bumped up the proof to 43+ but happy with what it is.

Always enjoyable, whether in a mixed drink, on ice, or taken as a shot.

I really like this one. With just one large ice cube. A bit of tongue tang at the start, but a nice lingering smooth finish that begs for another sip.

It's quite similar to Brugal Anejo, just has more flavour, more chocolate, and it is smoother, which makes it more sippable, yet it has lost a bit of kick of the cheaper one.
Whisky wood, some chocolate, raisins.
Very good mixer with coke, woody (whisky type, not fresh one).

The only reason I didn't rate it higher is the price, it does not reflect the difference between super cheap Anejo and 1888, and it is above some other famous rums in Europe.

Alternative if you like woody: Flor De Cana 12 (fresh wood, universal, but much less flavour), Dictador 12YO (old furniture French polish, bold not as pleasant).
Many people recommend Barbados rums for whisky drinkers, but I find them lacking whisky woodiness (Doorly's, Mount Gay). I find Forgotten Casks to be in the middle, so you might try that one.

Notes: whisky wood, chocolate
Wood: aged whisky wood
Fruits: none
Sweet: no, slight
Kick: low
Salty: none
Flavour: medium
Aftertaste: medium
Wine: none
Funk: none

Vypít se to dá, ale není to nic pro mě. Je takový suchý, ostřejší s příchutí kávy. Spíše bych ho doporučil do míchaných drinků.

I've tried almost their entire catalog, and the reviews for most of their line are spot on. They're average. The 7.6 rating this got gave me hope. Unfortunately it was misplaced hope. It's got very little to comment on aside from being harsh, and not very rum like. It reminds me too much of a bourbon. I drink rum for rum, not for wannabe spirits.

Have to say got to try this rum from a buddy who paid $100 for the bottle we both do not sip rum so we mixed with coke the rum in our words has a very earthy taste maybe it's the sherry casks or the tobacco coming through or the dryness of the rum but for our money not one we'd revisit anytime soon

What I like about the whole Brugal lineup is that they are drier than the average rum.1888 takes a dry Rum and finishes it in Macallan Sherry Casks. The result is a well balanced Rum that I could Sip on all night!

Some will be put off by the oak - it is prominent - or lack of 'smoothness' (aka 'distiller adds large quantities of sugars'), but this moderately priced rum borders on excellence. I suspect it is unadulterated; good. Quite distinctive with leather, tobacco and dark tea notes (pu erh-ish), some dark fruit encroaches just slightly with very dark chocolate tones...very satisfying. Considering how easily one can misspend money on 'premium' rums, this is accurately priced. A real switch-hitter from other standbys in the cabinet when you get bored. Reminds me of Appleton 12, and (less so) of Barbancourt 15.

As a scotch whisky fiend, I recommend to similarly addicted drinkers.
