Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
This is a surprisingly elegant offering from a brand I associate with keg stands on the beach in panama city fl. Lots of not so subtle flavors and sweet finish. This does fine sipped on its own or mixed. Price seems to vary greatly. Would not pay top dollar for this one but definitely pleasantly surprised.
PLEASE Captain Morgan...looks as if I'm not alone....been looking everywhere for more of this! Please make this blend again!!?
This is one which a truly enjoyed and have been looking for ever since. The best spiced rum I've had. Tastes like a good rum with spicy flavors that don't taste artificial as most spiced rums do. Just wish I could find more of it as it is no longer sold in my province.
My wife and I found this on clearance at a neighborhood liquor store for $9.99. Sure, we'll try it. We opened it up and couldn't believe how much we liked it. We've been looking ever since, and haven't been able to find it anywhere.
This one I can actually enjoy neat, but where it belongs is as a base for mixed drinks where it absolutely shines.
Goes rally well with coke. Love the vanilla tones in the finish. Hope they start making it again.
First off ....I saw the reviews here and was intrigued because it scored pretty well. I believe this was a limited release in 2014 ? I’ve not seen it available anywhere ....until
today ...at a mom n pop liquor store I happened to drop in to. Likely sitting in the shelve for a few years.
I bought all three bottles - they were only $19 each.
The nose on Captain Morgan 1671 is sweet with vanilla, cherry and ginger, some almond, molasses, chocolate, nutmeg, black pepper, and oak. It’s a nice collection of aromas that is similar to Dr. Pepper. Sweet but not artificially so. The spice ramps up in the mid with clove, black pepper, ginger, and oak with vanilla and chocolate. The finish is decent and tastes a bit like vanilla.
Can absolutely be sipped neat. Also tasty with some Coke.
Another limited edition gone forever. A few bottles still can be found online, but long gone from store shelves. Although I did not like this as much as Captains sherry oak finish it still deserves mention. A robust flavor and smooth finish. Worth a try if you can find some.
I know captain gets a bad rap but consider its purpose. This version is very good. There is a hit of alcohol but doesn’t stay long. Initially you get a nice sweet caramel flavor with similar smell to the nose. I sipped it and tried with coke. Prefer on rocks by itself. Has good chart
I couldn’t help but detect chocolate and coffee. I don’t like coffee and don’t want my rum and coke to taste like bad chocolate.
My first reactions was...where's the rum? As a rum, I just don't get it. It's weak, over mellowed, and for a "high end rum" the flavors are off and unbalanced giving too much attention to the oak. When mixed with cola the off flavors become more powerful, still a rum at this price should not be mixed... CM tried but missed the boat on this one. I still say their private stock is their only enjoyable rum.
I have tried about 20 spiced rums so far and this is very good. No alcohol harshness. Good amount of spice without being overbearing or vanilla bomb. Solid choice I was able to buy for $15/bottle which is great value too.
Love the aroma. Expected it to be too sweet however i was surprised to find this a smooth spiced rum. I'm a sipper and this is especially good with a twist of lime. I recommend this rum.
I only managed to pick up two bottles of this before it disappeared from our shelves. I loved it. Sweet and smooth flavours. I have a bit of a sweet tooth so what's not to enjoy from this Captain Morgans rum? I can only pick it up now by the case and I am starting to consider it.
Everyone has that one kind of alcohol that makes them gag because they once drank too much of it and vomited all night long. For me that alcohol is Captain Morgan original spiced rum, I hate the stuff. I also don't drink spiced rum very often and the last bottle I bought was The Kraken original spiced rum around the time when it was brand new. Somehow I decided to buy this CM 1671 bottle bc I haven't seen it at any other liquor store I've ever been to, and it was only 20 bucks. I can say that I don't hate this one, it's sweet and very smooth with tons of vanilla and some solid spice flavor to it. It still reminds me of regular captain but not gag worthy, idk all spiced rums tastes the same to me. I did have a tiny 50ml bottle of Kraken on hand at the time and when I compared them the flavors we're quite similar except the 1671 was sweeter and smoother which was expected. The 1671 is 70 proof with a lot of added sugar vs Kraken 94 proof w ?some sugar but likely less added. Nothing very special but 1671 is smooth and sweet and good to mix, I happened to bevdrinking it on the rocks and it had zero burn. My next spiced rum will be the new 70 proof Kraken Black that is not yet on rum ratings AKA "the Blacken". It reminds me of partying in the summertime and taking shots of some kind of spiced rum. Overall it's smooth enough to sip if u like the flavor but probably tastes best to make a vanilla rum n coke.
This rum is so smooth. Just put it on some ice and drink away or mix with Coke. Either way you won't be upset.. I wish they continued making this. Now that they stopped making it I'm buying it my the case to have it for as long as possible...
I have one unopened bottle will review when I drink it. just wanted to get in my cabinet
The bottle is cool looking... the rum, just average. I can't drink any of Captain Morgan's rum straight no matter how premium they claim it is. Good with Coke... but not $80 good.
no problem finishing the bottle and has a cool look to it. avarage rum for mixing
This is my favorite rum for shots. Dissapointed it's not available anymore. A friend who lives in Maui is holding 3 bottles he found for me. Can't retrieve them for 2 years. It will be good to have it again.
Aroma: vanilla dominates, but caramel present with potentially hints of clove. Spice not overwhelming, but present
Taste: smooth, very adaptable. Like others have said, fine with coke, although the vanilla and caramel notes do not clash with fruit juices or other liquors.
Honestly, I could drink this straight, room temperature. It's just that good.
Cost: surprisingly low for such a great rum
This rum reminds me a lot of the Brinley Gold Shipwreck Spiced Rum (in case you never find this one as I read it might be discontinued). I ever so slightly prefer the Shipwreck Spiced because it doesn't have quite as much spice to it.
Smells and tastes of caramel, vanilla, sugar, with a strong, and somewhat floral spice. A bit weak at 35%abv, but a very nice spiced rum nonetheless.
The bottle caught my eye while in the USA and I couldn't resist the packaging. Mixed or neat you can't go wrong. Love the overall experience paired with a great cigar. Was available for a short time in Canada for double the price. Still worth every penny.
This is a good spiced rum. For some it could be considered overly sweet with all of the additives but it is a good sipper for something different. It has a strong vanilla flavor as well as a bit of apricot and chocolate. Good finish and as stated before be prepared because it is sweet. This is a good sipper and good to cook with. I make a BBQ sauce with this as well as a pancake syrup.
