Tastes at the Elephants Eye November 18 2023
Appearance: light amber
Aroma: vanilla and barbasol
Flavor: tastes better than I thought. Caramel and cedar?
The bartender watched me sample this and noted that my facial expressions went through quite a range - first taste wasn't much, then caramel and wood, perhaps cedar, then finishes harsh. And then what lingers is tasty.
I would serve this with an orange slice
I'm shocked that this (and Bacardi) are rated below Castillo Silver (which, I read reviews defending it.) The fact is, they're basically all the same crap. Castillo is leftover Bacardi and Gold is just Silver with caramel added. Anyway you slice it, it's all pretty mediocre. As with Bacardi, the caramel helps to tone down the kerosene aspect but not enough to qualify it as good. There's better rum in the world people...
I'm by no means a rum expert or even a liquor one. But I am a big drinker of bottom shelf stuff- it's what I was raised on. For the price this is the best you're gonna get. Castillo is a subsidiary of Barcardi and it's pretty good stuff. No complaints to be had. If you're mixing it's a great choice maybe my taste palate isn't refined but it tastes fine to me straight too.
I think this one is more of a mixer than a sipper. Tried it on ice, then on Coke Zero. Much better.
This rum got me through our teens. It was cheaper than Bacardi and a bit better. Thanks to ABC for turning us on to it when we were poor and 18-19. Many Cuba Libras, but I’m sure I would have a hard time choking one done with my more refined pallet 53 years later.
Nice golden color and smells ok but.. Taste is pure alcohol with a chemical flavor. Tried it with Coke but the chemical flavor remained and was barely drinkable. Then i tryed it with pineapple juice and it tasted fine, the nasty flavor was gone. Needs a mixer that can conceal that bad flavor.
Needs a chaser or something to mix for pleasantness but shots are ok, $9 a LITER for this and I like it better than regular Bacardi. If you don't have extra bucks to buy like Kraken or Blackheart definitely get this!! ! ! !!!! Be careful about chugging it straight and try to enjoy it with something. STRONG alcohol and will get you destroyed if guzzling it down quick. BE SAFE MY FRIENDS.
This rum is a good $5 cheaper than anything else at my local store. It mixes well especially with Coke which is my favorite. Definitely recommend.
Very much like Bacardi gold, to my taste. Tried them side-by-side and couldn't tell the difference. Not surprising, considering Bacardi owns them from what I've heard. Not fantastic, but not horrible, either. Good for mixing, and was finding it for $4 a bottle for awhile!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Tasted at Elephant’s Eye on 11-18-23. Gold color. Mild biscuit aroma. Up front watery with a following burning finish. This doesn’t suck, but there’s not much going for it.
